I absolutely adore short haired fully black cats. My first was exactly like that and he was not only a beautiful panther on the outside, but also he had such a warrior spirit. And his personality, he was just so perfect. They will forever hold the most special place in my heart. But I can't stand black/white tuxedos. Just can't!!!!!! I would of course keep one/adopt one if I found one but if I had a choice, no way.

One of my cats currently omg he is amazing looking. He is brown striped/white tuxedo'd but his brown is DARK brown and his stripes are super black. He has a hilarious tiny white tip on his tail and he has the most brilliant blue eyes. He's stunning, and he's got such an innocent "feeling" about him. Just goofy and innocent and I love him to death.

It's hard to get a pic of his eyes because he always closes them for the flash. I've never seen another cat look like him with this pattern/blue eyes.

I don't understand it either.

I love all kitties equally, no matter what their hair colour.  A snuggle and purr from a black kitty, or a Tuxie is just as rewarding as a snuggle and purr from kitties of other fur colourings.

Most shelters don't do adoptions of black cats a couple weeks before Halloween, it's that bad. A black cat with any kind of problems in a shelter is..... not too well off....
Agreed on this. My shelter will put the Halloween ban in place here in a week or two- no black cats can be adopted out until (I think) the second week in November. I HATE that they have to do this because it is especially detrimental for the black kittens there, but there has been too many instances of black cats being adopted and then slaughtered.

I love black cats as much as everyone else on here seems to, but I always feel bad when I have a black foster kitten because I know they are just going to have a harder time getting adopted. I don't know what can be done to change this stereotype!

That really is shocking isn't it?  I've never heard of that sort of behaviour re halloween, but crikey!  All the more shocking when I look at my beautiful lady, with her soft green eyes, tiny little face, and so trusting purr and chirrupping when i fuss her.  I'd adopt every black cat in the world if I could, I think they are sooooooo beautiful!

I'm with you! My parents cat is black and I think she is just the most gorgeous cat I have ever seen! What people do to animals is absolutely disgusting, and I know it's not just my shelter or my State that implements a Halloween ban. It makes me so sad!

For those with indoor/outdoor black cats please use extra caution in letting them out this time of year. I would hate for any of you to fall victim to some people's tortures.

Here are some pictures of Livvy (aka LuLu or Tinkerbell) in all her black glory. Who could ever do such a thing?!?!?!?

I've adopted 3 black cats. When I adopted my first one, they had "10 reasons to adopt a black cat" above his cage. He is such a wonderful sweet boy! I've managed to rehome a few socialized ferals that were all black, though it did take awhile!

I've had people tell me they wouldn't come to my house because I have black cats and its bad luck. They sleep on my head, and I'm fine! I told her that was fine, I don't want anyone in my house who has a problem with my cats solely because of what color they are.

There are Halloween bans here too when it comes to black cat adoptions. Even when they go to the vet for their checkups around Halloween, the vet says "Be sure to keep them locked up tight indoors this time of year." (Mine are indoor only anyway). They both have orange collars and I'm always told they're prepared for Halloween all year :lol3:

Tara, that cat is gorgeous!!!!!  The trouble with black cats is, they are a devil to find when the go hide in the house!  Lady was startled today by my daughter coming in the house, disappeared and now I can't find her.  She hasn't got out, and I can hear her bell tinkle, so I know she's around somewhere, just can't find the little minx!  she'll come out when she's hungry! LOL!!  I really cannot believe what I am reading here about black cats and halloween, I'm pretty sure there are no such bans here in the UK, but I wouldn't let mine out then anyway, just in case!  xx xx xx

Well, I'll be honest, my cat is evil after all........  earlier I posted that I couldn't find her cos she's black, but after not seeing or hearing her for more than an hour, I did start to wonder where she was.......... I searched the house, under the bed, in all the cupboards (closed but maybe she'd gone in and closed the door behind her.............. yes, she is that smart), then when I couldn't find her, no meow, no tinkle of her collar bell, I started to realise she had got out.  Whereupon, I woke my daughter from her nap, told her to keep searching the house, I was going outside.  I came back empty handed, tears coursing down my face.................. Lady was gone.  I went to check under the bed for the 5th time, no sign of her, I dropped to my knees and sobbed, and sobbed, I thought I was going to be sick.  Then my daughter's voice came up the stairs "Mum, she's here, told you she hadn't got out"             me, "Fiona, she is not in the house, I've looked everywhere"............... Fiona "Didn't look on top of the fridge/freezer did you"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   And there was Lady, sprawled out toward the back of the appliance, ears flat, not a sound did she make.  She has been thoroughly told off, and there will be no Dreamies for some time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahahahahha- so sad yet so funny because we have all been there!

Earlier this week I was at my parents house and noticed that the cat didn't come out for her usual hello. I started poking around for her and couldn't find her anywhere. We were all in a panic (my Mom has cancer so she is in bed a lot and the cat is her best friend and confidante so if something happened to her it would be extra devastating). We checked EVERYWHERE and kept calling for her. I had looked in the front hall closet several times but she wasn't in there- or so I thought! On the third open there she was, staring at me like I had lost my mind! Because she's so dark I just didn't see her!

UUUUHHHHHHHH I think that experience took 2 years off my life. It's a good thing we all love her so much!

My brother's RB kitty, Wickett, used to hide in plain sight in the middle of the pine floor and watch you trying to find him.

ho ho ho ho haa haaa haaa!!!  My Lady is soooo funny.  They say you cannot train cats, but I have proved tonight that this is not true.  Lady has been scratting at carpet, so a few days ago I bought her a scratch board (and a toy that squeaks like a bird, think that is more for me than her), anyhow, I have been praising her and fussing her when she uses the scratch board, tonight she was scratting at the carpet and when told off went immediately to the board, so I thought, aaaah well done, and gave her some of her favourite treat, yep the Dreamies!!! After this she went to the board again and immediately came back to the spot where she got the Dreamies, so I repeated the action and praised and fussed her.  She has now stalked off upstairs in disgust because she had a few more goes at scratching the board and coming back to the spot, then scratching the board and just looking at me expectantly, I haven't given her any more Dreamies because she hasn't eaten her tea, she is now sulking at me! lolololol :-)

I have had two black tuxes. They were both angel cats. One of them was a friendly feral (we socialized him and were going to bring him in when he mysteriously died.) The second, Simon, could very well be his nephew, and he shares the same loving, docile temperament.
