Monday brought the lovely Bobby and Dotty home, they hid under the stairs until last night when both finally emerged, Dotty accepted treats from my hand, and allowed me to pet her.  she even rolled over for a tummy rub!  Bobby on the other hand deigned to eat from my hand but, no petting allowed.  Went to bed last night and Bobby came into my room, I remembered that I'd left the bathroom window open so got up to close it, startling Bobby when I threw off the duvet!  He shot out and downstairs like his tail was on fire!  About 05.30 I could hear Dotty crying, I called to her but she didn't come upstairs, I thought no more of it until I got up an hour or so later, to realise that Bobby was nowhere to be found!  I forgot to close the living room window and he had climbed up and got out in the night.  I have phoned everywhere to report him missing. I have spent a lot of my evening trawling the streets, neighbours gardens, knocking on doors, notes through doors where there was no answer.  I've been back to his old house and knocked on neighbours doors there.  I'm sooooooo worried. I've scattered (his) soiled litter around my garden,  been out with Dotty in her pet carrier, all to no avail.  The good thing is he is microchipped so I should get him home, but of course he must be scared and confused.  I'm leaving a window open tonight that he will be able to get in but Dotty will not be able to get out.

Ohh noo!, Do you not have screens on your windows?  If not, you are defiantly going to need some now

having the kitties. You said you were leaving a window open, in hopes he comes back, but Dotty won't be able to get out. Are you keeping her closed in another room, so she can't get out? (I'm confused
)

I hope Bobby comes back, or you find him soon!!

Ok, don't laugh Angel's mummy. I have a 'utility' room which has a window at the top.  it is too high for the timid Miss Dotty to jump up and out of, and there is nothing near it that she can use to do so.  I have put my outside rubbish bin by the window outside for Bobby to be able to get up on and then into the house.  I know that I am risking another cat doing likewise but I can't think what else to do as we don't have a cat flap installed yet.  I suspect Dotty will come and sleep with me tonight!

When cats escape outside, they are usually hiding within a couple of hundred yards (unless they are trying to find their way back to a previous home).

Another poster on the forums recently found her cat who had been missing for over a week.

I agree, hence putting some of his used litter around the garden and I will keep going back to his old home morning and evening to check if he has turned up there.  I can get into his ex-humans back garden where there is a greenhouse in which he liked to sleep.  Also, the lady who was looking after them in their own home after their human went into a care home, has been to the old house today and opened the cat flap so he can get in if he wants but cannot get back out.  Fingers crossed and thank you x

OH good - I was wondering how in the world you would keep Dotty from getting out of that window. If she is like my Perla - I could leave all the doors and windows open and she would never, ever leave or even think of going outside. She too is quite timid. Anyway, I do hope that Bobby comes through that window tonight. :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

If he goes inside this house but cannot get out, will there be someone there?  If not, make sure they leave out some water and food for him or check often.

If he gets inside his old house, there is a cat there he knows.  there is food and water.  the house is checked daily.  Don't worry, on it!

I hope your kitty comes home (: Usually cats don't go too far. I'm sure if nobody has found him already he will return when hes hungry.

Oh the silly things we do for our pets. Don't feel foolish I've done worse!

Hi Guys, no, no luck yet.  His old house is about a mile from my house at the most.  I've been around there every day.  will go again tomorrow.  On the bright side. Lady (n'ee Dotty) is settling in well, if only she wouldn't insist on waking me at 5-5.30 every morning!  Made the mistake of opening one eye and talked to her this morning, i got licked into submission!  I have every faith that her brother will be brought back to us.  Thank you all for thinking of us xx

Hello all, just a little update.   Bobby has not come back or been found yet.  I do fear for him a bit.  I have tramped the streets yesterday and today calling him, but of course he won't respond to a female voice because he was living solely with a man for the last year.  I found out that he hasn't had all his shots, he got his first lot but not the boosters, so that's a worry.   Still hopeful that he will at some point come back/be found, but of course most people don't go to a vet to find out if a cat is microchipped, they either shoo them out or keep them! So annoying.  Having said that, Lady doesn't seem too bothered, so, either she is happy on her own, or she is used to him doing this i.e, going off for periods of time.  Lady is back to eating well, playing with me, and she sleeps under my bed after a bit of fuss on the bed.  She seems quite content. So fingers crossed that I do get Bobby back, but of course if he is gone for a long time, how will Lady respond when I get him back again............. oooooh it's all a worry either way isn't it!

Yes, it's definitely a worry either way.
That he makes an appearance sooner or later.  One of mine was lost for 3 weeks before we found her, and she was right next door under the deck the entire time!
