OK. We don't have details. Flowerbelle is home from her cardiac ultrasound. She also had chest x-rays (again).

The cardiac ultrasound was done by a cardiac radiologist, though the owner of the vet practice was present. He's in surgery and will be for the better part of the afternoon, so we won't have details until he calls. BUT we were told that the message to be passed on to us was "it looks more like her lungs than her heart." And THAT is very good news and less of a worry as re: consequences and long term treatment.

That said, the radiologist (or Ken, not sure which one) took her blood pressure. So it wasn't done by the same vet tech that normally does it. It was only tested three times - I don't know where on her body it was done - and each one shows basically her systolic pressure is 180 or more! I also don't know WHEN it was done. Was it done before the cardiac ultrasound? Or after? How stressed was she? So kind of stupid, really, to have it done at all, unless they did it shortly after she got there - not after she'd waited and had the CS done (and I don't know if this was the case or not).

But those numbers are what her BP looked like BEFORE the Norvasc! So I have no idea what's up with that. Her vet isn't in today. Obviously we're going to have to schedule another appointment to take her in to get her blood pressure checked - and soon - because either her Norvasc needs to be adjusted, or something was just really wonky with today's measurements. :sigh:

For those that don't know, Flowerbelle was diagnosed with early asthma. Treating that is complicated by the high blood pressure - pred is contra-indicated. Apparently even the inhaled steroids are.

She also developed a heart murmur after 9 years... so that, combined with the elevated blood pressure and coughing was the reason for the cardiac ultrasound. But it looks like her heart is in the clear - though we don't know for sure yet. :lol3:

So... to be updated. :)

Hi Laurie, Well that's good news that it's not her heart!!
Yea, you would think that they would be

conscious of when they took her b.p. for that reason.  Poor little flowerbelle, having to go through that.

Well, I hope when they figure out what's going on w/ her lungs, it's nothing to serious!

Good news about the heart!  The bp is really puzzling though and the questions you have regarding it are very valid.  I'll be looking for the update on this soon.

You must be on pins and needles waiting to talk to your vet and get all the details. :vibes::vibes::vibes: for Flowerbelle.

Well, I called at about 7:00pm. Ken was still in surgery, with another one lined up. I told the receptionist to let him know he can relate the info to Dr. Summers, and we'll just catch up with her.

Actually, I'm not dying on pins and needles! :lol3: The message that was related was VERY reassuring. And the radiologist report won't be back for a few days anyway.

Thank you all for your vibes and well wishes for our baby girl! :hugs:

:woohoo:

OK.

Cardiac ultrasound: NO SIGN OF HEART DISEASE, period. Nothing. The murmur? Mitral valve prolapse. Recommendation? No follow-up necessary. No ECG necessary.

They also took a look at her abdomen. Did see slight enlargement in lymph nodes that drain intestines, but there's no thickening of her intestinal wall, so no IBD, no lymphoma. We have NO idea why they looked at this - maybe they caught the enlarged lymph nodes during the cardiac US? :dk: Either way, it's all good news, and the slightly enlarged lymph node isn't causing any of them any concern.

:D

Blood pressure: Don't know when it was done. So just bring her in next week so the same vet tech can do it the way they normally do it so we have an apples-apples comparison.

:lol3:

X-rays: No sign of asthma OR bronchitis. Some slight scarring - could be from herpes and/or lung worm given how bad off she was when first rescued.

SO.... given her blood work is all normal, and everything else is all normal, the high blood pressure may be due to the slight scarring and thickening of arteries in her lungs. But basically, reason unknown. But there's no more testing/imaging to do: just treat the high blood pressure.

:woohoo:
