I have 2 litter's of kitten 6 in all and was just at the vet.  Yup it's ringworm.  He says to put them in a room and lock them away while treating it.  I have 5 adult cats in my house and I just don't see how I am going to get rid of this.  The kittens were just about ready to go to new homes and now this.  I want to crawl into a hole.  My kids had it but with cream it went away.  I fostered my aunts cats till they found new homes and now I am thinking that's were it came from.  This is so frustrating.

I know it's highly contagious so that's why he told you to quarantine them. I'm not sure how long it takes to treat it.

He said 4-6 weeks.  They are in my kitchen at the moment and I am thinking about putting them in the basement so that I can bleach all the scratching posts as well as bedding and the floor.  One kitten is 10 weeks old so she is going to be very old when this is over.  I am scared she wont find a home.  I have 5 adults cats that show no signs at all.  My one is 16 years old and if I give her a bath and wipe her down I think she might go into shock and have a heart attack.  I have never even heard of ringworm till this.  I think this came into my house from when I fostered my aunts cats cause I have had cats for 30 years and never had anything like this happen.  My kids got it right after her cats left my house.  This is so frustrating.

I had the exact same problem about 18 years ago with three little foster kittens. I kept them confined to a room and wore a groomers vinyl zip up jacket to go in and out of their room. I shaved them down to get rid of the hair - the spores. Very important. That way you can also see any lesions and spot treat them. Did the vet give you anything topically? You can also use Colloidal Silver on the lesions - 500 ppm. http://www.holisticat.com/ringworm.html You will also need to bathe them according to what a vet would recommend - lime sulfur dips. They also received Griseofulvin orally. http://www.petplace.com/drug-library/griseofulvin-fulvicin/page1.aspx although - there are new drugs nowadays - but that one still works. I also had four other resident cats at that time - none of which got the ringworm nor did I. I am SOOOO sorry that you were about to adopt them out. What a shame. :sigh: Really - if you do all the necessary steps according to your vet - then this will be quickly eradicated in about 4 weeks. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Yep - bleach will be your friend right now. I know that this is not what most do for RW nowadays - but my vet back then also had me dip them (instead of using lime sulfur) in a 20 - 1 bleach solution. http://www.newmanveterinary.com/Facts About Ringworm.html It really, really worked. Sounds awful - but the kittens were not harmed by this. Just poured it on (not on their head!! behind their skull on the body only.) and let them air dry. If there were lesions on the head - I spot treated them with that solution. But talk to a vet first as I am only letting you know what I did for my kittens - many years ago. :lol3: Times have changed and there are new ways and new dips to treat RW effectively.

I have conofite cream to put on twice a day as well as sulfurated lime which scares the crap out of me.  I hope this wont turn their fur yellow or anything.  I don't see anything on any of my other cats.  I don't have much carpet in my house which is a good thing.  I am still trying to figure out why this thing even exists on this planet in the first place.  I would rather have an infestation of fleas rather then ringworm.
