Sigh...my neighbor called me.  She had a small black kitten sitting on her back stairs, wanted to know if it was mine.  Nope...she goes to check the new neighbors and other houses and on one is taking claim on him.

In the meantime hubby and I see a huge red tailed hawk sitting in a tree looking at the kitten.  I speak to the kitten and he starts jabbering at me and hubby.  Neighbors try to catch him and he runs out of thier yard and under a storage shed in the next yard over.  We cant get him out.  I go home mumbling to myself about stupid careless people.

I bring back some stinky wet cat food and put it down where he went under the shed.  He is out eating that food in 2 seconds flat.  I grab him, he hisses then starts purring in my hand.  I pick up the food and he is so hungry that he climbs up my shirt to get to the food.  I walk back to my house holding the purring and eating kitten in my one hand.  My best guess is he is around 4 to 5 weeks old.  Tiny tiny bag of bones.

He in now ensconsed in my upstairs bedroom with a litter box, soft and hard food and water.  He has a cat bed and toys in there.  He hides when you first walk in the room but quickly warms up to you when you speak to him.

HE IS ONLY HERE FOR THE NIGHT!

I plan on taking him to the spca tomorrow.  I just wish he would stop jabbering/purring/sleeping on me...I feel bad taking him there.  I have 4 cats that were strays already and a large 100 pound german shepherd.  I know I could aclimate them all to each other but man I sure dont want to!

If he would just stop jabbering/purring and sleeping on me I would be fine with it.

Hubby says that he is soooo young and needs a family that can spend time with him.  BUT he is so darned cute I cant stand it.

Is it wrong to start calling him Sid?  Naming is soo bad.  I promised hubby that I would take him tomorrow....Its gonna break my heart.

Sigh...stupid irresponsible pet owners!

Talk with them in SPCA. If they can promise a good home at once - good. If not - better you take the burden on you, put on a suitable suffering posture on your face - and do keep him.    :)

I suspect he IS ferale. Prob the most daring in his litter.  Possibly also the only surviving from a disaster. That young he will be very easy to foster into a loving home pet. But somebody must do it, give him a home. He cant be in a room leaved to his own resources for weeks.

An good alternative is if you find some neighbour, friend, etc who will adopt him, after you did some fostering.

Tx a lot for caring!

Good luck!

Oh my...I walked into the bedroom and he came running meowing at me just a purring away.  Head butting me and happy as a clam!  I gotta talk to hubby about this.  He says we have enough to care for but he said last night he wished we could keep him too.  I'll let you know what happens.

Well..it looks like he is staying.  I spoke to hubby and he is not toooo happy but not toooo upset either!  I made a vet appt for him next week.  It was the soonest they could get him in.  They are going to call if one opens up earlier but for now he is safely in the front bedroom sleeping, eating and pooping lol!  I wish I knew how to post pics.

Thanks everyone!

We are now thinking of changing his name after his personality comes out.  We are thinking of Simon, Carlos and Sid (short for psycho sidney because he was such a hissing spitting mess when we brought him inside.)

I did give him a bath for the fleas but the vet said not to use dawn just an oatmeal based shampoo.  He fought that oh my..his howling was horrible.  It made all my other cats really nervous lol...like something was going to get them next!

I just spent the last 90 minutes in the bedroom with him curled up on my lap just purring away and jabbering at me.  I'll get some pics this week and get them up =)

I'm so glad he is staying!!!! Must have pics!

Reading your story, he reminded me of my little black kitty I got last year that was also living outside when found and skin and bones but very vocal and ended up being a little snuggle buns.

OH bathes are just the WORST!!! Poor baby. Btw - the oatmeal shampoo will not kill fleas. You can add a little Anise extract - about 1/4 tsp. to the shampoo - a safe way to kill the fleas. Might need to apply a flea product top spot from the vet. AWWWW he sounds so very loving. :rub: :heart3:

I was surprised that the vet told me not to use the dawn because he is so young.  He didnt have very many come off him but lots of dirt.  I figure if there is one flea there is more.  He is doing so well and knows who to cuddle up to (hubby)...Hubby has totally lost his head over him and calls him baby carlos.  Lol..its too funny!

Ah, this is part in the negotiations play!  He wants it to be clear he is doing you a favor, and expect some sort of little favor back in the future.

But really he is surely also wanting the kitten in.    :)

Good luck!

Sid Unvicious?

They DO get in your heart quickly.  I've seen Dottie take a pillow and blankets and sleep on the floor in the bathroom with foster kittens, and SHE's not the cat lover!

We have a name!  Our newest baby is...drum roll.... Emmitt!  It so fits him lol.  I have to find my camera card to take a pic...he is already looking like he has grown in the week we have had him.  He is drinking krm and soft kitten food mixed with krm too.  I have a bowl of hard food available at all times and yesterday he climbed into it and started eating some of it.  Lots of fresh water, toys , litter box and a whole bedroom/sewing room to run around in.  I have moved everything he could hurt himself on such as needles and opened thread packages.

I have my sewing machine in there covered with a dust cover and guess where I found him sleeping today?  Yep!  In that little space between the motor and the needle part lol!  He poked his head out and came running when he saw me, crying the whole time.  I swear he was saying, "MOM!! Where have you been???"  Silly boy you have only been alone for 2 hours while I cleaned the house lol!  He is such a sweety pie.  Got my hubby wrapped right around his fingers thats for sure =)

Thanks for all you help and answering questions for me.

Tammy

Oh..he got another bath today...he was not amused lol!  I did use a tiny smitch of dawn but no fleas came off him...not even when I brushed him after drying him off.  That is great news for my other kitties and doggie.
