Hi guys this is Gryphon my new baby. He's about 3 months old and when we first got him a month ago he was just a scrawny little guy (you could clearly see his ribs and he had no energy) so we've been feeding him 3 times a day and he always has dry food to snack on but the problem is that we have a full grown cat and whatever she doesn't eat he will. My concern here is that he seems like he's getting kind of chubby but I wasn't sure because 1.) I've only ever seen him as a skeleton and 2.) I've always had long hair kitties so I cant really tell what their figure is, just a ball of fluff. What do you guys think? Does he look chubby? and if so what can I do to keep him from becoming overweight. Also, He has a ton of energy now and he is constantly playing with well... everything including our full grown kitty.

You should be able to feel his bones but with a little fat over top. If you're having trouble feeling bone, he might be a bit overweight.

Usually you don't have to worry about kittens getting fat until they're at least 8-12 months old. Young kittens should be able to eat as much as they want so they grow up big and strong. Although I suppose if you have a real little piggy, you'd have to control his diet at least a little :lol3:.

He doesn't look too fat to me.

I suppose he plays and runs a lot? And grows too? This is an excellent burner of excessive calories.

Nay, it sounds all right.

Agree, kittens aren't overweight at such a young age. Also, if he's eating the other cats leftovers perhaps he's still hungry and not being fed enough, kittens can eat twice as much as adult cats.

He will also need to be wormed if it hasn't been done already.

This is what kittens are like

Kittens this young can't really be overweight... they go through phases where they get fatter for a while, then get longer and and it balances out.

When he is 1 year old your vet can tell you if he is overweight or not. Until then, I wouldn't worry about it.

Beautiful kitten, I love his markings. He may have worms though, his belly has a certain..roundness. I'd take him to the vet and ask the vet about a de-wormer.

He looks fine to me. I have a 3 1/2 month old now. I got him at 6 weeks old from a horrible situation. He was sooo skinny so as he filled out I too wondered about his weight. He is really active though and eats twice as much as Mia but stays lean which is how your cat looks to me. A lot of vets say kittens on average gain a pound a month. Cute little guy.

At 3.5 mos old, they are growing so rapidly that they need to have something to grow into.  I wouldn't worry about him being overweight or not.  Continue to feed him as often as you have been.  When he gets to be closer to being an adult or even a bit over a year old, then worry about his weight.  You want kitties to have nice round bellies.
