I am on a low carb diet myself and eat a lot of organic chicken and meat. I would like to share this with my kitties in place of some of their canned food. Should I add a vitamin with these meals? Would the cat vitamin called Daily Best (from petco) be okay? Thanks for any info.

Well, we don't really know what nutrients are destroyed in the process of cooking. There are online recipes for cooked cat food - they may give you some idea of what to look for in a supplement (or you can try the recipes. :dk: ).

If it's less than 15% of their total diet, then you don't need to worry about balancing it nutritionally.

Of course, you could just feed them raw. Some bones or calcium like eggshell powder (in the right amount) and a small amount of organs, and no supplements needed. Especially if it's just a part of their diet. The raw feeding forum can help if you want to know more. :)

Oh - cooked cat food recipes:

Note - this page is hosted by the website author, not written by her: http://www.ibdkitties.net/Homecooked.html Personally, I think cooking the bone could be dangerous, but bone (or some supplement with just calcium) is needed to balance the phosphorus in the meat. So please note it's recommended to grind THREE TIMES so there aren't problems with brittle bone pieces.

Depending on how much home made food you feed, I'd at least add taurine.

I add "Maximum Protection Formula" by Dr Goodpet. (goodpet.com)

I think it is also at Amazon now.

I would recommend, either, of these brands: Wildtrax (http://www.wildtraxsupply.com/) or Oasis/Apperon (http://www.apperon.com/index.php?route=information/information&information_id=19).

Thanks for your replies. I will supplement if I do more than a few homemade meals a week. I gave them chicken and ground beef and they went crazy for it !
