hi sorry for asking but ive been hand rearing a kitten whos mother abandon him he was only about 1wk old when i found him i was also caring for a kitten that was pregnant n has had her babies now they r 3wks old i put scampy in with her n her babies when her babies was 2wks old so he would of been 4wks old she has taught him to clean himself, feed from the bowl n use the litter tray but he will only poop in the litter tray. Ive put him in there when it looks like hes about to have a wee but he gets out n wees on the floor what advise  can anyone give me as to how i can get him to use the litter tray for weeing in as well ive put newspape down along the edges so it doesnt go under skirting board LoL as this is where he seems to go when he wants to wee on the odd occasion he will wee in the litter tray but very rarely i know they have accidents but when u get up in the morning n find the newspaper saturated with urine its quite frustrating any advise plz ty

Some cats prefer not to pee and poo in the same tray. Thus, two different trays may be the trick!

You can also try with Dr Elseys kitten attract litter.  Not cheap, but you dont need to fill up the whole try with just dr Elseys. It is enough if you lay only the upper layer with this attract litter, the rest down under with some more common, non smelling non clumping litter.

Good luck!

there is 2 litter trays in the room so he has the option to go to either of them i also check it regularly n clean it as soon as it has been used i have 2 down there as he is with 4 kittens that r only 3wks old n obviously the mother of those kittens is down there that particular tray is a little higher on the edge than a normal size litter tray but he can get in n out of it no proplem have seen him go into the higher edged one n he also uses it for pooping in if his tray is dirty eg first thing in morning as i clean them both before going to bed but they r both dirty when i get up in morning but generally during the day he tends to just use the one n not both

Are you properly cleaning the soiled areas with an enzyme cleaner? Otherwise he's going to smell it and keep going there.

Is he penned or loose in a room? The more space they have the harder it would be to litter train.

they were in a large area but have today moved them into a smaller room so not much of an area to run around in i clean the soiled area regurarly with this stuff called zoflora it is a disinfectant that is safe to use on pet bedding n cages
