Hi everyone,

I'm brand new on here so I thought i'd ask for a little help. I've read a lot of the forums and posts on here and I know everyone seems to know a lot about cats (well seeing as it is a site about cats). ANYWHO...

Right now I am with a pregnant cat. She has had a litter before back in Feburary - which I was not present to see her give birth to or see much of how she behaved to get a rough idea. Right now, she is really huge. She keeps cleaning herself around her groin, nipples, belly, tail, everywhere. She does this now for the best part of the day. Her belly itself is rather hard and her nipples are bright pink, no fur around them and they are very swollen. She keeps staring into space like she is in pain (if that makes sence at all) and looks really frustrated. Her head has also been twitching now and then which I have noticed, and she has started sighing a lot...perhaps she's getting as impacient as I am. Lol. I could see the kittens move around a few days ago, quite a lot but not really noticed them in the last day or 2 (haven't really been looking at her belly though...just been panicing).

Food wise, she did eat a lot a week or 2 ago, but her appitite has gone back down to normal. (And we made sure there was always food out for her and the rest of our cats).

She has also been very loving these last few days too. She isn't really a cuddly cat at all, but she's comming for strokes, cuddles, kisses and sitting on my knee as well. She has also been back and forth to her nesting box for the last 2 - 3 nights, but then going back to her new found perch in my room round 20 minutes later. She does seem to try and find other places though when sitting on her perch (she looks own the sides of the wardrobe - not a big place for her to have as her nest...or to even fit down).

The father is known I may add. He's our male cat, also the father to the 1st litter. We were looking to getting them both desexed but with time rushing by and a lot of things to sort and deal with within the household, she got caught again and we didn't even relise until she doubled in size a few weeks ago.

This is my 1st time with looking after a pregnant cat - my mum usually does it but she has a full time job as of recently, so I'm looking after her everyday, all day now whilst she has the kittens and until they get a lot older. Any tips and help would be great. I understand not all cats are the same and that is no different in pregnancy. Thanks.

What a shame they weren't desexed after the first litter, I hope you get the boy done ASAP they remain fertile for up to 2 months so keep him away from her until that time has passed

It sounds like she's quite close, there's a sticky at the top of the forum with useful links

Thankyou. And I really wish we did. Neither of us really wanted to have more babies in the house, but alas it was our fault and we will look after them properly. As soon as we can, we are getting the boys desexed as they are ready to be now, as well as the dad.

She has also been going through a mad phase tonight. She went and ran a little around the room, scouting for a place, then went back on her perch.

I shall have a look at the links also.
