Sassy, my perfect 21 year old tabby, crossed over the bridge this morning. She had been declining, and I knew it was coming, but I guess you just can't prepare yourself enough.
A neighbor gave her to my daughter when she was just 6 weeks old. She was the runt of the litter, and a very mellow baby.
She grew to be huge(over 20 pounds!). She raised my kids. They dressed her up in doll clothes, and pushed her around in a baby buggy.
She was there for every milestone in my children's lives. Now they are married, and the last of their childhood is gone.
I will miss her terribly. She wasn't sick, and she didn't suffer. She just died quietly of old age in her little bed.
My 6 year old male kitty, Joey will miss her, too. When I found her, Joey went up to Sassy and licked her face. I talked to him about her being gone over the "Rainbow Bridge" to see Alex (who had passed last year almost to the day)I am hoping that Joey will be ok with being the only cat in the house. He was the youngest of three.
Any suggestions on how to help him not miss Sassy so much? They were snuggle buddies.
Thanks,
Sierra
