My cat loves squished ants!

I was wiping down the kitchen counter with hot water trying to get rid of ants. About 5 minutes later I hear a clinkety clankety jingling sound coming from the kitchen counter. . .it's my Russian Blue kitty Sage rolling in squished ANTS as if it were catnip!

Makes her a little cross-eyed. . .

. . .good stuff though.

After this pic, she kept rolling and rolling and rolled right off the edge of the counter! Fortunately I was right there to catch her!

Ants! What next? I'm sure they're quite fascinating. As for rolling right off the counter, I'm surprised such things don't happen more often, the way they lose themselves in whatever rolling around they're into. Mine play on the stairs that way -- a split staircase, that goes from the front door, up to the main level, and down to the basement. They play, of course
, on the upper part, hanging over the edge. Give their Mum the willies, it does!

BTW -- Sage is one lovely kitty!

Tania,

Actually they don't smell anything like catnip — to me.

One time I had a infestation of ants in my garden. I didn't want to use a poison spray so I got some boiled water and poured it on them
The minute I poured it on a few of them, they emitted a perfumey smell, then they all went crazy running around all at the same time. My theory is that the hot water caused them to give off a fear pheromone to warn the other ants. That's how they were all able to get into a frenzy at the same time even though the hot water only touched a few of them. The pheromone acts like a communication device. So when I wipe down the counters, the ants probably give off the same pheromone except that in small amounts I can't smell it, but my kitty can.

Why Sage thinks an ant pheromone is so fabulous, I have no idea! Maybe she's got a thing for torture?

Maui, thank you so much for your explanation.
Maybe we should bottle the ant pheremone and make millions selling it to cat-lovers!

Yes, of course I'll have to be in charge of squishing the ants, eh?
