Our adult female cannot tolerate Adams, Frontline, Advantage, Program, etc. Gets sick, foams at the mouth and sometimes throws up. We have thoroughly cleaned EVERYTHING (we even shampooed the carpet), comb her and all the others several times a day, tried flea collar in the vacuum, etc. They're still all CRAWLING with fleas. We even throw them in the bath once a week to try to get the fleas off them. We're at our wits end and the vets don't know what else to try. The other three are kittens, one of which is still under a pound.  The fleas are so bad they're starting to feed on us as well.

I should add that we do not own our own home so removing the carpet is not an option.

Kitties do not go outside, though they were all former ferals (Mama lived outside for a year, we worked with her for a year and a few months, from kittenhood before we could get her inside. She is now traumatized of the idea of outdoors. She had a litter, only one kitten survived, and we have him indoors. He is 4 months old now.) Then about a month ago we saw a couple of abandoned kittens, and it was over 100 degrees outside so we brought them in as well. Cleaning has happened since that occurrence. Revolution has also been tried. Mama is sensitive to all chemicals- has a few bald spots as well from them.

Our landlord is a slum lord who refused to get our air conditioning fixed for a year; rented this place out knowing there was a bad cockroach problem (they showed up the day we moved in, but were not present when we were viewing.) Unfortunately we cannot afford to move, the shelter has an 85% kill rate and the only rescue within driving distance is an hour away and unable to help us. So we do the best we can by them. I don't think our landlord would get pest control out here.

We live in a rural area and cannot get diatomaceous earth.

Kitties are getting used to baths, and we basically only use Dawn in the water. Any tips to help prevent their coat from drying out? Right now they're getting about 50/50 raw food and grain free kibble diet. As far as the dry bald spot, is there anything we can massage into it to help stimulate the follicles? Would using olive oil be a bad idea?

hmm. you probably don't have to bathe the cats more than once/week if you are combing daily so I retract what I said about that. I would not use Dawn - I would use a gentle shampoo for cats - I'm not sure what this devotion to Dawn is all about over any other soap/surfactant.

I can't see what could be wrong with a bit of olive oil.

I've heard of salt or borax as well (leaving in carpet for a few days and then vacuuming up)
