I just lost my best friend of 15 years on Fri 08/24/12. My heart is broken. He was the man of the house. He was the longest relationship of my life. I am worried about my 14 year old Little Girl. I do not know how she is doing. i am reassuring her that everything is going to be O.K. Will she adapted? Can anyone share with me? I am sure she misses him as much if not more than I. Please help ease my mind.

Thank You

I am so sorry for the loss of your Baby Boy Pee Wee. Fifteen years with your furry friend is a long time and we get so attached to our guys/gals.  We have gone through the loss of 3 cats from 2001 to 2006 and it is very sad but you just try and think back at all of the good times you shared and look at photographs you took of him.  He was a handsome guy and looked confident. We had ours cremated so they will always be with us. We now have 5 felines and one was a feral we took in in July 2011.  They are all indoor cats and the feral, Sox is doing real well and does not miss the outdoors at all and is very content looking out the window and exploring the house.

Time will help take away some of the pain but once an animal has entered your life, he or she will always be in the back of your mind. Just cherish the happy times.  Trying getting another pet and that will help some and the house won't seem so empty. May your Baby Boy rest in peace.

I am sorry you lost Pee-Wee.  I lost my Claude when he was 15 due to stroke.  I still have his brother Tegato and he is now 17.  My boys have been together since birth.  Tegato adapted just fine after losing his brother.  I did re-assure him everything was ok and gave him extra attention.  I am also in a multi-cat house hold so he was also bonded with one of my other cats.

How is Little Girl acting?  If she is still eating/drinking and going to the bathroom then she is probably ok.  If she is looking for her brother then try giving her extra attention or see if you can get her to play.  I know this may sound strange but explain things to her.  Your cat may grieve with you and that is normal.

I had another cat that passed away back in 2003 named Baby T and she was very close with both Claude & Tegato. They both ran around looking for her and meowing.  I just explained to them that she was not coming back.  I also gave them a lot of extra attention and they did get past it.  T was a 2nd  mother to them when they were born in 1995.

One of my friends had a cat pass away unexpectedly right before she was going out of town for a new job.  Her remaining cat was looking for his friend while I was sitting for him.  I just gave him extra attention and told him that I was sorry his buddy was gone.  He seemed to start looking for his buddy less once I explained things to him.

Little Girl is eating and she is getting really spoiled. I have been home for to days now and she has not been looking or crying at all. Peewee was my first rescue. A year later I rescued Little Girl. They are not related by blood, but he is all she knew.Tomorrow I return to work and the house will be empty. I plan on leaving the T.V on for her. I thank You so much for replying . This is my first time loosing a pet. The morning is the worse time for me. I am finally waking up refreshed and not stressing over Pee Wee. He has changed my life in so many ways. God Bless

My condolences. Fifteen is a "good" age for a cat, but it doesn't make it easier to lose one. RIP, PeeWee.

Thank You So Much! It makes my day to know that there are so many people and support out there. Peewee is in a better place and not suffering anymore.
