Hi, my name is Katie and about one and a half years ago I adopted a three year old shorthaired kitty from the humane society. She is completely de-clawed and fixed. I noticed her hair was thinning a little on her chin but I figured that was just from scratching, but the other day I woke up to find a large bald patch on the back of her neck. It looks as if someone shaved her there. She's starting to get bald patches on the sides of her neck as well. She's an indoor car and the only one in the house.
Now as for the "tattoo " today I was checking out everything to see if she was getting better and I found a marking on her lower stomach that appears to be black ink. It's a circle with a line through it. Im positive she wouldnt have sat still long enough for anyone to draw on her, so I'm getting fairly concerned.

to TCS!

The tattoo was almost certainly done when she was spayed - that's a fairly common practice to inform subsequent vets that the cat has already been fixed. Should a cat be lost and then taken to be spayed, the vet would see the tattoo as soon as she shaved her. As far as the bald patches are concerned, it doesn't sound like overgrooming because of their location. They could be caused by an allergy, e.g., a food allergy, thyroid problem or even a parasite or fungus, so it's best that you get her checked out by a vet asap.

Wow! Thanks so much for the quick replies! :) I'm glad that's all it is, but you did mention the vet would see it when her tummy was shaved? I'm worried that it's so visible now. :( I got her the same brand of cat food this month but it varied SLIGHTLY, i think it was indoor formula instead of hairball control. she has a very sensitive stomach. She was having some bathroom issues so I'm guessing a lot of this has to do with that change. My mom doesn't want to take her to the vet, so I'm hoping she'll be good until I can scrape up enough for it myself.
