I don't get paid until next Thursday. I cannot afford to take him to the vet until that time if this does not start clearing up. :( Please don't give me grief on this. I live on a very tight budget and this is a completely unexpected issue. I just had to spend my vet reserve money on an ear mite appointment and treatment just last week. :(

So kitty had mites and they seem to be clearing up. His ears are cleaned and treated but he still seems to be wanting to scratch at his ears. The head shaking has also for the most part stopped.

He is a ginger tabby and is prone to over-grooming and allergies. I'm still trying to root out the cause of both and deal with the issues but it's a tedious process.

I noticed last night that my cat had some irritation on the skin in the outer-most corner of his eye. Closest to the ear. Only one eye. It has a sort of scab like feel and is red if I gently run my fingers across the area it feel like there are two little lumps on either side of the scabby area.

Now the night that I discovered this I did a warm compress on the corner for five minutes, flushed with saline, and did a single drop of polysporin eye & ear, vet oked this previously when he got some minor scratches on his eye after an incident with dirt and dog so I figured it was still ok,  gently rubbing a little of the drop into the scabby area. I do this usually twice a day once in the morning and at night. Tonight I added a bit of 100% pure emu oil on the area that was away from his actual eye to make sure none of the oil got in his eye. We'll see if this has improved the problem in the morning.

I did a make-shift e-collar at home of a cloth headband cut in half and stuffed with cotton balls to deter him from rubbing his paw against it. He'd been doing that lick front paw and rub against side of head on that spot a little bit and I think that has something to do with the problem. He dosen't mind the collar to much and almost seems to enjoy having a pillow carried with him everywhere.

Now he dosen't have any other symptoms. No clouded eyes, nothing in his eye, no weird or excessive discharge, maybe a tiddly bit more of the usual clear-sleep-goo then normal and no over abundance of squinting unless it's right after I've cleaned it. I can touch the area and he is not bothered at all by me doing so. I checked his eyesight as best I could by seeing if both eyes would follow and object I waved in the air, which they did. No hair loss int he area. His eyelash line on that eye is a tiddly bit more pink then the other eye. I am not seeing his extra eyelid or any obvious swelling or discoloration anywhere else on his eye.

He's still eating like a trojan. Peeing and pooing as normal. Playing as normal. Sleeping his usual hours everyday.

The only symptoms are the red scab like skin, the small bumps, and apparent itchy-ness. If I remove the collar he will try and rub or scratch at the spot which may or may not be because he over grooms his face pretty bad.

Is there anything else I can do to soothe this problem until I can get him to the vet ? Is it possible this is from allergies ?

It's very possible it's related to the allergies and it could also be something like a flea bite.  What are you feeding him? Many kitties are allergic to fish, chicken, and grains.

a good vet will treat the animal first then deal with your problems. vet should allow a payment plan.

cat comes first. he's helpless. don't wait.

Then I don't have a good vet. I live in a pretty low income area, she's the only vet in a hours distance the next is over two hours away, and they had so many issues with not being paid that she requires at least 50% of the appointment up front. It's 50$ just to see her. I cannot afford a 100$ + gas expenditure right now when he's not doing anything that makes me think he's not feeling well. Still eating, sleeping, bath-rooming, playing, seeking out attention, tearing through the house, etc. If if get's worse and I see it start to actully affect his eye or him then I will have to scrounge and borrow to get the money to get him in if it's before Thursday.

He will be going on Thursday for certain if it hasn't gone away.

I cleaned it this morning and the two small bumps seem to have decreased in size to even less and his sore spot appears to be healing. I called my vet and she advised what I was doing is just fine and that it's better for me to observe him and keep it clean to see if it does clear up. She dosen't want me to come in only to find out that he now just has a small cut that needs to be kept clean. He was in a new environment, came to work with me one day, so she thinks it's possible he rubbed something and got a reaction from it. She told me if it get's worse bring him in in the meantime watch him for any other symptoms.

It certainly appears to be healing.

Vet is thinking it's food in combination with dust. I'm working on introducing a higher quality food into his diet as he currently just eats canned purina. New food is grain free. He loves chicken and turkey and he's had it strait up raw before so I don't think it is the cause so much. Not a big fan of 'fish' and his favorite seafood is shrimp. Shrimp is his favorite treat.
