I purchased a new bigger tub of petroleum jelly as all my cats will take that nicely for hairballs and such.  Well I opened it tonight and gave a little bit to one of my cats. Then noticed a smell to only realize it was the Petroleum Jelly!  I didn't see it labeled because they wrote it so small on the label!  Just wondering if this will harm him? The only ingredient listed was the petroleum jelly nothing else :(  So I don't know what else is in there to give it the scent.  I'm hoping it isn't going to make him sick! Anyone ever give their cats a scented petroleum jelly?

If it is sold for human use, chances are the perfume in it is not dangerous to humans, even if ingested. It's sold to be put on human skin, possibly chapped or injured skin, so it has to have a very low toxicity.

I would call the company. . .I'm sure it's fine for topical use but for taking internally I'd want to know for sure.

He seems fine.  But I do plan on calling the company to tell them that they need to mark that it's scented with larger print, because a lot of people with cats use just petroleum jelly also and need to know if it's scented as it could possibly be dangerous if ingested by an animal.

Your cat will most likely be fine.  It was a small amount but if you're concerned, you might call the vet or the manufacturer.   I'm curious as to why you chose petroleum jelly for your kitty?  I've always used water based products for my 4.  I've always thought that petroleum products were not ideal for a cat's digestive tract.  I might be wrong on this but I think I read it somewhere a long time ago.  Ever since then I have only given water based products.  Just curious is all.
