I'm new here! Or semi-new, I registered a few weeks ago, but ironically, my new kittens made it difficult for me to sit down and do something worthwhile on the computer :p But I've found a solution, and is starting to get into new routines.

When I was a kid, we used to have cats. But my parents got sick and tired of animals, so when the cats were gone for whatever reason they lied to me about, I wasn't even allowed to name the dustbunnies. So I've always said that the first thing I'm going to get when I move out, is a cat, or more. Even before I get a bed or a couch. That wasn't the case. But I kind of live on a farm, and two of the cats had kittens about thirteen weeks ago. One of the females didn't want anything to do with her litter, so the other mummy took them all as her own. There were five kitties, and I got to choose who I wanted. I was supposed to have only one, but thought I should have two, since I'm gone about 9 hours every day. So about a month ago, one from each mommy cat came home with me

This is Lupin (picture from their first day with me). She is named after my favourite character from Harry Potter, Remus Lupin. But since Lupin is a man, calling a lady cat Lupin didn't quite fit. So if you change the emphasis of the word from "Lu" to "pin", you get the Norwegian word for the Lupine flower, which is one of my favourites.

Lupin is the shy and careful one. She's also the most cuddly one when I see them in the morning or when I come home from work. Everything her sister does first, she copies. Unless she realises that what her sister did made me very upset. While her sister can jump and climb and explore much further, she needs to climb in levels. She's just not that brave. Her coat isn't as soft, and she is smaller in build.

But my god, how gorgeous she is when her pupils dilate and she's on her back playing with the fishing pole I've gotten them :)

When Lupin is tired, she always comes over while making these cute cries for attention. She spends some time walking all over me, cuddling and purring, and then she jumps off and goes to sleep somewhere close. Sometimes she snores! But in a lady like manner :)

This is Nellik on the first day she was with me. Since Lupin got the name she got, I thought Nellik would be fitting for this naughty lady. Nellik is the Norwegian word for the flower carnation, my other favourite flower. For the first hour, Lupin was Nellik, and Nellik was Lupin, but then I changed them, because they fit better the way they are now.

Nellik is definately the trouble maker. The first weeks she was everywhere she was not supposed to be. I had to run around the apartment lifting her away and saying "No". She has learned, but since she's also growing and becoming quicker and more agile, she finds new places she's not allowed to go. Something she really enjoys is jumping up and trying to climb my leg. Especially when I'm doing the dishes. My legs look like hell.

Nellik is bigger, her coat is softer and she only cuddles when she wants to. The first few days I had them, she was the one who let me cuddle her all the time. But there was one day, when she was on the toilet. I noticed it was quite runny the last poop that came out, and when she was about to cover it, she stepped right onto it. So I let her finish, then took her and attempted to clean her paw before she left brown footprints all over. She was not happy with me. The next few days she shied away from me. I was so devastated and desperate, I contemplated spraying myself with katnip. But then one evening as I sat on the couch, she climbed up on the back of the couch, and fell asleep on my shoulder. I shed a few tears of happiness, I'll admit that. So from that day on, she usually only wants to cuddle when she wants to. But when she needs to sleep, and I'm home, she can't sleep unless she's on top of me. She jumps up and grabs hold of anything that's available and walks up to lick my chin, or my chest, and then she settles down, either on my lap or across my stomach, expecting me to hold her upright.

Both of them used the litter box from day one, without me doing anything else than showing them were it was. It feels a bit too good to be true. But apparently my cousin and her boyfriend showed them how to dig and scratch out in the stables, where they lived before I got them. There they used the woodchip thingy that the horses use, so I took some of that with me and mixed in with the sand. I think that helped. One day I hope I'll can teach them to use the human toilet. But I don't know if I can do it if I'm away at work for so long each day. Any tips? I don't want them falling into the toilet while I'm away...

So that's my two favourite girls in the whole world! I'll finish off with some recent pictures!

Where my cats are
Welcome to TCS!  They are such cuties!  My 2 are littermates that I adopted when they were about 11 weeks.  Ever since I highly recommend getting 2 together like you did!  They would snuggle and play and just keep each other company.  Kittens can be a lot of work; or more than you'd think, but I still thought 2 was easier.  It seemed my 2 stayed out of mischief more because they were busy with each other.  I also kept them kenneled when we were sleeping or out of the house; so I'm sure that helped.  It was in a large, wire crate made for dogs.  Big enough to move and still have a small litter pan and all they needed.
