Yes or No? What do you think? Has anybody ever tried it and do you have a review to share?

We're thinking of subscribing for construction of the addition to the house.

Isn't there a hefty "fee" for joining?  If there is, I wouldn't join.

I get referrals from friends.  Contact the BBB to be sure they have a good rating etc.  There are plenty of free ways to get a good contractor.  Why pay?

Yes, there's a fee to join. And when I went to the webpage, I wasn't all that impressed. I wanted some other opinions, just to get an idea. Thanks!

The only experience I have with Angie's List is what I hear from my sister, and she loves it (she's in Washington State). She really likes to do research on the best services and goods, and she loves bargains, and she keeps telling me I should join. I thought it wasn't in Canada but I just looked and it is.

You might also check and see if there's a local homebuilders association and talk to them about referrals.

I used to be a zoning officer and I kept a record of people who I like really liked working with. There are a few local contractors who genuinely cared about how their projects looked and would call me quite a bit to ask questions and to make sure they were doing things right. I always thought that if I were to ever start a construction project, some of these guys are guys I want to work with, simply because I know them and I know how much they care. I'm calling some of them now to get an idea.

I said about Angie's List because I've heard good and bad things about the way it works. Needed some opinions. Thanks!

You can join Angie's list with a basic membership, pay with PayPal, and get it for half price.  But it doesn't include doctor's listings.  That's an upgrade.

I got several of the guys who I've talked to about my roof and hail damage from the List.  And a number of people offer discounts to Angie's List members.
