Hi All
,

Let me start off with, yes, I am paranoid, when, it comes to this cat. I am FULLY aware
. I may "dog on" that cat. But, I really really do
him. He is just such a handful.  It may just come with the breed (F3 Savannah) and the name Loki
.

Anyway, Loki, has had, one case of diarrhea daily, for, the past two days. He normally, only has a bowel movement, once a day. Frequently, he will only have one bowel movement every other day. His, "normal bowel moments, are more like bricks". I apologize, for, the TMI,

His diet consists of, live whole: Mice, Rats, Quail, and Chicks. Plus, insects, that find there way in. He eats: spiders, moths, ants and such. He also eats, about, half a cup of Evo daily. Prey is given, twice a day and Evo is left out, for, him to snack on.

Anyway, this morning, before work, I took a stool sample to my vet. My vet, was relived, to just be checking the stool and not the cat. A little background here, I have know this vet since, I was eight years old. I have also worked for him, over the years. So, this is just how we interact. I laughed and said, that's all for now. I am awaiting the results.

Anyway, I had him tested for:

1) Giardiasis- the parasite, that causes Giardia

2) Isospora- the parasite, that causes coccidiosis/coccidia

3) Tritrichomonas Foetusetus

When, I mentioned, the last one, he said, only you, would even know what that is, and want to test for it. I am fairly sure. I laughed, but, I consider him, to be a very good vet. So, have any of you heard of Tritrichomonas Foetus? I got the knowledge/awareness of the parasite, from, a breeder friend. Hence, decided to check him for it.

Has he been tested for Clostridia?  C. diff. almost killed me last year. I don't think animals can get that strain, but there are several that animals do get.....Look it up on Wikipedia.

Hi All :wavey: ,

Yep - you have to question the wisdom of choosing that name! :flail:

Um, yeah, we're used to discussing bathroom habits in the health forum. :lol3:

I'm sorry he's not been feeling well. :( Let's hope it was just something associated with something he ate, a passing thing. :cross: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: I know you feed whole prey, but I think there's a possibility there was something about one of them that didn't agree with him - it's not just dead raw meat that can have bacterial problems, right? :dk:

Well, I think it's true that most people don't know about T. foetus. But so many people here at TCS rescue - and/or so many people post about their rescue kitty health problems here - that it's something we normally recommend people check for when they've adopted rescue kitties/shelter kitties and the usual stuff doesn't clear up problems with diarrhea. It's not nearly as common as giardia or something, but it can often be at the root of a rescue kitty's diarrhea mystery.

You just had a foster kitty in, so maybe Loki did pick up something from him/her? :dk: How's he doing today? :cross:

Vibes that it was just a passing thing! :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

OH! Wait! If the problem hasn't cleared up, and the fecal comes back (came back?) negative for anything, I HIGHLY recommend a product called DiaGel. This is it: http://www.revivalanimal.com/DiaGel.html There's a tab there, you can click on the ingredients (just make sure you're reading the Cat DiaGel ingredients - they're different than the dog DiaGel ingredients).

It doesn't require a prescription, but a few years back when there was a shortage of metronadizole (you probably know this, but used to treat giardia and many other intestinal tract bacteria or bacterial overgrowth problems), the vets out here were told to "prescribe" DiaGel instead. It works for just about everything. Because I'm feeding raw, I make sure to keep some on hand - because let's face it, sometimes there are issues with raw meat, it's just the way it is. If the diarrhea doesn't clear up after a day, or they're frequently running to the box, out comes the DiaGel. Sometimes just one treatment works - if not, I give a second, 12 hours later. I've not had to use it often, and I've never had to use it more than twice.

So if his problem hasn't cleared up already, and the vet found nothing in the fecal, order some DiaGel. Some vets carry the stuff - it can't hurt to ask, though if you need to order it, the best price with shipping is the link above. :)
