CO2 laser for spay surgery?

I just scheduled Pepper's spay surgery for September 28. In the paperwork, I have the option to pay $50 for them to use a CO2 surgical laser. The benefits are supposed to be less swelling, less pain, less bleeding and faster recovery. I need to talk to the vet, because I don't quite understand where exactly the laser is used vs a scalpel. Is it the first incision? The removal of ligaments holding the organs? I have NO issue paying if it's going to make things easier on her, I just want to be sure it's not just a fancy way to spend more money. any experiences?

I have no experience with cats, but last year I had an 11mm stone lodged between my kidney and bladder.  They used a surgical laser to "blow it to heck".  I had the surgery on Saturday and was discharged the next day..  Conventional surgery would have taken a week to recover from.

The laser will probably be used instead of a scalpel,  as it cauterizes as it cuts.  This results in a smaller, cleaner incision letting the wound heal faster and causing less initial trauma.

If I am wrong, somebody please correct my understanding.

My last girl was spayed using a laser and her recovery time was so much quicker!  Less invasive, less pain, less everything.

It's $50 more than the traditional surgery and it's optional. The regular surgery is an option too, but I think I'm going to opt for the laser if it will be easier on her.
