Meet the pregnant stray we wanted to catch before she had her babies. She is a good mother, unlike the older 3's mother. Feel bad taking them from her, but it had to be done.

We thought she was going to kill us and we'd never get the babies! She noticed there were two of us though and took off running to the bushes. Sorry mommy cat
Handful of 10 day old kittens

Our diluted tortie girl, Jewel

Little Sabrina. She has the eye infection the worst.

The troublesome trio

Little tuxedo girl, Willow. Second worst with eye infection

And the only boy of the littler and only boy other than Mica, Salem

Salem and Sabrina, the identical kittens

We're picking up on the dropper quite well!

We still do the dropper pretty well
Sabrina weigh in (scale in ounces) 11 days old (notice we added new names to our weigh in tub)

Jewel weigh in 11 days

Willow weigh in 11 days

Salem weigh in 11 days

Thunder weigh in 5 weeks (these guys are going to be tiny! 4 week difference between them and the smooshies and look at how close in size they are! These ones were born July 11, the new ones August 11)

Ivy weigh in 5 weeks

Fern weigh in 5 weeks

Chip weigh in 5 weeks (sorry for the gross kitten faces... They haven't figured out canned food fully yet!)

Pip weigh in 8 weeks

Mica weigh in 8 weeks

Cheeto weigh in 8 weeks (Btw it's 34.8)

So that's all 11 of our kittens. No more pregnant stray. 9 female kittens off the street (that's a lot of future kittens being prevented!!!) 2 male kittens off that street (even more future kittens prevented) The weigh ins were done today.

The smooshies (group named for their smooshy faces) are very quiet little ones! They don't go screaming when hungry like everybody else did/does (which makes it hard to sleep because they won't cry when hungry and I don't want to starve them!) and they're very laid back and chunky little round pudges and eating better now that they're figuring the dropper out!

Seems every time we get kittens self sufficient, more needy little ones come to us!

And the momma cat's horribly angry with us. I saw her cuddling with one from her last litter earlier this year and the second she saw me she got us and gave me that vicious look and hissed and I wasn't anywhere near her at that time. She's going to hate us for the rest of her life. Wish there was a way to tell angry feral momma's that this is better for their babies and you're sorry for taking them from her.

But oh my gosh are the smooshies laid back and quiet! I ended up having to sleep with them last night since they don't cry for food so when they started squirming around to find a nursing spot I'd wake up so I could feed them. And when they do scream, they have these quiet little voices. Last night a couple of them sat up for the first time and today Salem got all 4 feet on the ground and was "walking" (still dragging his belly but he was on his feet!) these little guys are even starting to play already!

Cheeto's going to her new mom tomorrow night and then coming back to us the day before her surgery then going back forever. Gonna miss her but she has a great mommy who has another kitty and a black lab and is very excited to get her! She's thinking about taking one of the new ones too!

Those eye infections look pretty nasty. Will they get well? I don't know much about these things.

The eye infections are almost completely gone, but we think poor Sabrina's going to be blind in that eye since the 3rd eyelid's off now but there's a white film over it and a darker white spot over her pupil. It looks kinda like a catarac does. Hopefully we can find somebody to take in a half blind kitten. We're going to try to talk my cousin into taking her. She had a black cat named Sabrina once and she had a kitty she had to tube feed (it died earlier this year and she did say she may take one when we only had 2 litters) so maybe this little girl is meant for her!

Cheeto (now named Lily) went to her new mommy for a week last night. Her mommy bought a new cat tree just for her and a ton of new toys! She looks happy as can be and is going to be spoiled rotten! They have a black lab and I guess they took to each other right away, though her older cat's not too sure about the kitten joining the house yet (it lived with 5 other cats and since they moved and it's had no kitty friends it's become destructive) but Lily's mom may take Salem when he's old enough! So he has a hold on him for now and hopefully goes there.

Mom cat for oldest 3 - wandering the neighborhood happy as can be. They all had horrible eye infections plus momma's not even a year old herself and would leave them in the open alone all day long or drag them around to drop them off then wander off to sunbathe on the other side of the house. She seemed relieved they were gone!

Mom cat for middle 4 - we're not sure where she is. My aunt found them on a very hot day screaming all morning  in the sun and the one we're keeping (Thunder) had been super lethargic after they got them in. She was perfectly fine after getting cooled off though and those guys purr non-stop!

Mom cat for youngest 4 - she's currently in a trap in our front hall recovering from being spayed and will be released back outside tomorrow. We took these ones in because of eye infections (little Sabrina's actually blind or at least mostly blind in her one eye that was infected) and because we wanted to get this feral colony TNRed and knew this would be better for the babies. We know a couple people wanting 2 kittens each and Cheeto's mommy might want Salem so they're all going to loving homes (after getting fixed of course!)

And actually we have 1 more cat to take care of now! A 5 month old girl we named Heather (older sister to the 4 newest kittens who we kept seeing with her twin cuddling up with their mom after we took in the little ones) she has a ton of potential to be a good cat and we're working on getting her tamed up so she can go to a loving home and have a much better (and longer) life than being outside with all the busy streets, bugs, diseases, and raccoons (ok, the raccoons are fat and just sit on the steps eating WITH the cats but still)

Oooh, Be careful with the raccoons around. A neighbor of mine had raccoons eating w/ the strays they were feeding on the porch & that's how we had our first

rabies outbreak of the year,( in out county). All the strays had to be coaught & put down because rabies was confermed. :(

Is there any way you can TNR the mama? That means trap her, get her neutered and ear tipped and returned?
