i woke up this AM and found cat food vomit on my carpet. (i'm assuming it was Socks) Well just now Socks vomited and it was like clear stuff. I know some of dd Sugar Puff cereal dropped earlier and he may have got a bit of that but now i'm worried about him
I have no money to take him to a vet right now and i doubt they will take a postdated cheque until the 19th when dh gets paid. I pray he's ok he's my little angel boy and i don't want him to be sick.

Hi,
If you have gone to that vet for awhile they might, and you tell them your situation. I have never had to ask my vet to do that, but just from the way he acts, and a lot of the time, he doesn't even charge me if it's for something little. Why don't you give it a try....doesn't ever hurt to ask

The fact that Socks is vomiting liquid is a concern. Cats can dehydrate quite quickly. I would call your new vet tomorrow and explain the situation. Most of them are really good about taking payments. You just want to be sure there is not something seriously wrong with Socks and peace of mind can arrive with just one vet visit.

Why don't you try and call a local emergency vet and see if they can tell you what to do until you can take him to your regular vet.

You need to get him to a vet. He could have gotten into something or he might have an illness. Either way, Socks needs medical attention. Unfortunatley, there's not much anyone can do from the boards.

A light pink, almost white gums??? I am not an expert here but a trip to your local animal hospital would be a good idea. Socks may be getting dehydrated and/or anemic. So please take Socks to the vet ASAP and tell them of your situation. They should be able to work something out with you.

Edited to add they need half the bill upfront and i have no credit cards. I feel awful

Do you have a way to borrow some money from a friend or family member or even a credit card. Socks does need to be seen ASAP. See if they are willing to take a payment plan.

are they the only vet hospital in the area? Maybe a shelter could help you out with something.

Hi guys juszt thought i'd update. I never got Socks to a vet last night,it just wasn'tpossible. He slept with me all night under mywatchful eye,he was very sweet as usual. AS far as i know he never vomited over night. I see this morning that he has eaten as i can smell it on his breath. He's kept his food down(unlike last night). I do know he still needs to get to a vet and i will do my best to get him to one. So for now i will be watching him very cloesly and trying to contact some vets. Thanks for your help last night.

The first question my vet always asks is:
was there any mucous in the vomit?
clear vomit, is apparently not as worrying as green, or yellowish stuff...

If he's still eating, that's a good sign.

Have there been any changes in the food?
Sometimes that can cause vomitting...

Is he using the toilet ok?
Is there any loose stool?
Blood in urine?

Is he an indoor or outdoor cat?

I don't want to say too much, but if his stomach is upset, you can try and get him to eat some plain unsweetened natural yoghurt, this will neutralize the stomach acid and settle his tummy and also create a healthier intestinal tract in general... and i don't think it will necessarily complicate any illness, if he is indeed sick...

While you should get him to a vet as soon as you are able, bear in mind also that if his vomitting has stopped... and he's eating and drinking he should be okay but you should still get a medical opinion as soon as you are able...

The pale gums is probably just a touch of anaemia... what food are you feeding your cats by the way?

your cat needs a vet, there is no two ways about it. White pale gums indicate a stage of anemia if not addressed could be fatal. I am sorry, I don't mess around here. If you have a vet that will see you then you need to take him in. He is not vomiting because his stomach is empty. He can't vomit, which means dry heaves will be next and those can be life-threatening as well. This could go away, or it could go very bad. But a vet would be able to tell you what is going on. Continuous vomiting in a cat is not normal, and vomiting liquid is not a good sign. Please offer to run errands for a neighbor, or ask your vet if you can clean cages or something, but Socks should be seen.

There was no mucous from what i can tell
He;s still eatinbg and no changes in food
Litter habits are all fine
He's a indoor cat
The cats eat Royal Canin Kitten Dry

I spoke to the vet this AM and they said since he;s fine now to just watch him and if anything happens to bring him in the morning.

Yeah, i agree with hissy, even if the vomitting has stopped you should still get him to a vet as soon as you can... The pale gums is worrying though... Especially as anaemia doesn't happen over night. Anyway, good luck.
