Hello Cat Lovers!  I'm new to this site and hope to learn more about my two furry friends.  We've always been a "one cat owner" but rently adopted a 4 month old kitten to join us with our 6 year old female tabby. It's been 6 weeks and they are doing wonderful together. It's amazing how much love our Mittsie has for the newcomer, Maggie.

Hello and welcome. I am new to this site too. I am so glad to hear your story. I am planning to get a kitten as a companion for Our Boy Ruben.  Ruben is very laid back and relaxed but he is also very playful. What kind or temperament does Mittsie have? I suppose every cat is different but I'm wondering if certain types bond better than others?

Helllo Tammat,

Mittie is a 6 yr old female tabby. She has  always been very playful with a lot of energy.  She's never been very affectionate towards us we believe primarily because she had a lot of kennel ills soon after we adopted her and we had to poke and prod at her so much that I think she grew to not like humans handling her.  For 9 months she had vet visits, pills, ear washes, worms, etc. etc.  But she's a sweetie and shows affectionation in her own way and has been very playful.   However, lately she's seemed to be bored and always wanting me to take her outside on the leash/harness because it's so much more exciting laying beside a bush and watching what's going on after she's done with her house routine.  So we took a huge leap of faith and decided a kitten would be the best choice of a companion for her, same sex and same breed.  We also knew that she didn't object to other pets with having friends bring their cat or dog over.  She was more curious at first than anything else towardsd a newcomer.  Some hissing but soon accepted the pet visitor.  Finding Maggie, just 4 mos. old, turned out to be the perfect fit.  Mittsie romps and plays with her but also licks and mothers her. It's almost "too good to be true".  Although we'd  have loved to give an older cat a home, we felt that bringing a kitten into the house would not make Mittsie feel as threatened, and the kitten had little to no previous experience of independence. I think that's why it worked so smoothly for us, and I think we were just lucky in part too.  We battled the decision for years but one day got the bug to just "go look" and after looking at 3 shelters and discovering Maggie, we felt quite sure she was The One.  So I bid you good luck and courage to venture into the adventure.  It surely has been an adventure FOR ALL OF US with the new addition to our family.  Laurie, alias MagMitts (mom to Mittsie & Maggie)  I hope this information helped.
