Hey Everyone

So little Smokie got outside today, and when his Daddy brought him in- he dropped him to the ground and Smokie accidentaly whacked his head on the door and ran off..

I grabbed him right away and checked on him,and he had a little gooseegg :(

I put ice on it and gave him some aspirin (which he takes anyway) and he seems to be OK. He is lethargic, but not stumbling or dizzy or throwing up. Anything I should look out for, or will he be OK?

I hope your cat will be okay.  I have always read never give a cat aspirin except under direction of a vet.

His vet has okayed it. He gets a baby aspirin every other day as needed for arthritis pain. It seems to work better than anything else the vet has tried, Rx wise- and it is much cheaper. :) He also gets Benadryl every other day for allergies- all under the vet direction,.

So he had not had one since tuesday, so it was okay for today.

I'm not a vet and I haven't stayed at Motel 6. But I do know that cats metabolize aspirin very poorly so it builds up in their bodies. Most recommendation are to use it only every 3 days, and not long term.

My elderly arthritic cat takes Cosequin, a qlucosamine supplement. It didn't take effect immediately, she had to be on it for a few weeks before I really saw results (just like when I started on glucosamine for my knees.)

At that point I dropped the dosage back to 4 times a week. It's a couple of years later, and she's back to once a day. She jumps up on the bed, does not wince when she walks.

If you stay with the aspirin, perhaps you might want to ask your vet what the signs of toxicity are, just to be safe.
