Good morning!

We've had yet another rash of burglaries in our area...somebody is going through unlocked cars and stealing whatever they can get their hands on. We always keep our vehicles locked. And when we go anywhere, even if it's just down to the post office for a few minutes, we always lock the house doors, too.

Do you lock your doors? Your house? Your vehicles?

Before l moved to the city, l never locked anything. l'd be gone all day at work and my house would be open, windows open, and my car was never locked. Now that l'm in the city, l remember to lock the house before l go out, and the car.

The house is always locked. The car is usually, but not always. I live in a quiet residential area that nothing ever really happens. We never locked our old car where we used to live and it got broken into. Someone stole our cd's out of the glove box. Not really a big deal, but it just bothered me that someone had been in our vehicle.

Our house and cars are ALWAYS locked.   And we have an alarm system in the house that we always turn on when we leave.    When we go to bed we turn the alarm to "stay".    I would never even think of not locking a door --- I guess it may be related to growing up in New York City.

I've lived in the middle of the city, 300 feet off the ground with a doorman and a terrace most of my adult life.  I learned street smarts by living in the city.  I now live in one of the safest areas of my state.  And yep!  I still lock 'em all up.  Even bad things can happen here or anywhere else.  Better to be on the safe side.

Lock everything, too.  Too many unprincipled people around here.  I lock my truck door as soon as I get in, even before putting the key in the ignition.  House door gets locked when I am inside or further away than the mailbox. I keep the house cannon close, too.

We lock everything up. Lots of people here don't lock their doors which I find to be really weird. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

One early morning a couple of months ago we were all in the kitchen getting breakfasts before work/school. Our kitchen has two french doors that lead out onto the deck and back yard. I saw someone at the doors, trying the knob, it was an elderly man trying to get into our house. I opened the door and talked to him, it was obvious he had dementia and he was lost and cold. We let him in the kitchen and called the police and his son came and got him (along with the police).

His son told us he did the same thing about a year ago, and went into someone's house during the night. When the woman who lived there woke up, he was sitting in her kitchen and offered her some tea. I guess he would have done the same thing with us, I would have had a heart attack to wake up with some guy sitting in my house!

I lock my house when I go out, mainly because I worry about someone innocently opening the door (sometimes delivery people (phone books, ads, etc.) will open the door and put the item inside) and letting the cats out. If someone really wanted to break in I don't think anything would stop them, I just want to prevent accidents. I rarely lock the door when I'm home, except at night (also to prevent cat escapes).

I lock my car in public, but not at my house or my parents' house. I don't keep anything good in there anyway.

I always lock the doors. EXCEPT :lol3: when I go out for my 30 minute walk. Don't know why either and it drives Larry nuts that I don't. Other than that, I do lock the car, house when I leave. :wavey:
