My youngest cat, Tails, is 2 years old today! It's hard to believe I have had him for 1 year 10 months already.
I wasn't even planning on getting a kitten when I went to the Anti-Cruelty Society that day. I was looking for an adult playmate for my first cat, Memphis, who I had gotten a month earlier and who was 18 months old. I looked at every cat they had except for the two 8-week-old sibling kittens they had, but the lady who was telling me about the cats (you know, if they are good with other cats, health problems, eating difficulties, etc) and taking them out of their cages for me insisted that I at least take one of the kittens out of their cage. I said OK, and that I didn't care which kitten she chose since I wasn't planning on being swayed. She chose Tails, brought him over and put him in my lap, which was scary because he was SO much more fragile than Memphis. I didn't know how to hold him or what to do with him, but he couldn't care less. He started rubbing my hands with his head, plopped down on my lap, and instantly fell asleep. You can all guess what happened next. I told the lady that he had made the decision for me, and to go get me a carrier to transport the little guy home in. Luckily he had been neutered the day before, and I was able to take him home right away.
I named him Tails after Sonic the Hedgehog's sidekick because, apart from me loving the games as a kid, they're the same colors, and he would follow me around literally wherever I went in my apartment, just like Tails does in the video games.
Here he is on the first day I brought him home. You can see the last bits of blue in his eyes before they turned completely green. (That's my roommate's girlfriend holding him. I don't make a habit of wearing women's cloths)
He used to be able to fit inside my baseball cap (and in my hands when I cupped them into the "begging for alms" pose), and actually loved taking naps inside of it. However, he's grown quite a bit since then...
This is him barely able to squeeze into my roommate's size 10.5 shoe box last December. I didn't take a picture of it, but he climbed into one of my shoe boxes (size 14) the other day, and he was barely able to manage that.
Here's a pretty good comparison. First picture is Tails at 5 months old when I was building the cat tree, the second picture is Tails a couple weeks ago.
