Random itchies....within the normal range?

Okay, we are first time cat people of nearly two years now.  We have 3 two year old cats (and a new foster cat.)  I'm still wondering whether my cats' itchiness falls within the normal range.

They are indoor only cats and only one had a mild flea problem when we adopted him at 4 months.  He was living in isolation in a non-carpeted room and the problem was dealt with swiftly.  I'm pretty confident they don't have fleas.

I see them scratch their face and ears (sometimes neck) several times per day.  (Keep in mind I am at home with them all day so I may observe this more than most.)  They do wear collars which I'm sure could add to the neck itchies.

I had the vet check Leo's ears at his one yr check up.  She saw nothing unusual, no ear mites.

They eat a relatively healthy diet of grain free canned.  We are working some raw in too.  I don't think we have any unusual environmental things going on like harsh chemicals or anything.

On a side note, I posted on another thread about Emily having a small wound on her cheek that looks a little like ringworm.  (We had a bad experience with it after adopting Leo.)  Since their cheeks are an area they often scratch, I'm wondering if she just got over zealous in her scratching.  But, that is concerning that she would scratch to the point of wounding herself.  Eh, maybe she got it another way...or maybe it is ringworm.  (I hope not....it has not gotten larger in 2 days and still looks like a wound.)  On the other hand I read that an unusual presentation of early ringworm symptoms is itchy ears....yilkes.  I read too much!!

Anyways, I know people get random itches that are not a problem.  I'm sure it is the same for cats.  Am I worrying too much?

I would think that a couple times a  day is normal. My male kitty scratches at his collar too. He also chews on the plastic tag for his microchip number as it hangs a little lower off the collar. He grooms himself several times daily, but nothing abnormal. His coat is great and he is happy. My female on the other hand, has atopic or inhaled allergies. I'm going through an outbreak of this right now as summers are bad for her. She gets so itchy that she chews at the base of her tail, and licks the air when someone scratches her back. At her worst, she will sometimes stop in the middle of whatever she's doing to scratch or chew herself. At the height of a breakout, she will get pustules that turn to scabs up and down her back from her neck to the base of her tail. There is a definite difference in how she acts and my male acts during that time.

I wouldn't think that you have a problem, but some things you can try that won't hurt is fish oil added to their food. I am giving her pure salmon oil, krill oil is also good. I believe it is helping quite a bit, as all the pustules are gone from her neck and upper back. There was two pustules left near her tail today that are turning to scabs. I give her an antihistamine like benedryl when she is really bad. You could try a bath in an oatmeal shampoo as well, but most cats really won't go for that. lucky for me, Kattie loves her baths and gets one twice a week during the summer

Last but not least is diet. You seem to be doing great in doing the grain free canned and getting raw in there. I'm trying to convert to raw but it is a little slow going. She does eat grain free though, mostly canned with a little kibble. She is getting raw a few times a week.

Hope this helps. I think that your kitties are doing fine but like I said the fish oil can't hurt and may even help.
