Gaudi was found on the street with his mother and siblings when the kittens were about 4 weeks old. He came to live with us one year and one week ago, the bonniest little kitten you could ever imagine. He was a little angel, so sweet and loving, and so utterly beautiful.....

He was diagnosed with FIP in March. His liver was already shutting down at the time, but he soldiered on for another week. He was so ill, my little boy, but he simply didn't want to leave yet. He refused to give in to the disease, he just wanted to be with us. On Saturday, March 24th, after eating hardly anything for 2 days, he ate his final meal and he really enjoyed it. I put him on the bed and we had a long, intense cuddling session. I hadn't heard him purr for well over a week, but he swiched on his little engine for me one more time, so loud and convincing that it was hard to believe he was ill.....

Then he slept for an hour, curled up against me, and when he woke up he almost fell off the bed because he was too weak to jump down. I just caught him in time. That was the end, he went into hiding, and when I managed to get him out of the hidey hole he had curled up in, he felt cold and had a faint sweetish smell about him. He clearly liked being cradled in my arms, but he no longer responded with his ususal loving snuggles. He felt limp and it was clear he had finally given up.

We rushed him to the vet, but it was hardly necessary, we may have shortened his life by one or two hours, but no more than that. He died in my arms, faintly purring his goodbye. He was 10 months and 5 days old.......

We adopted Gaudi's remaining brother Connor a few months after his death, and it is a consolation to see the similarities between them, to see Connor enjoying a happy, healthy life, but I still miss my little boy so much.......

He should have been here, living 15 -plus years of this happy healthy life........

Losing our furry family members is so very hard.  I'm soooo sorry for your loss...  I am glad he had you to give him love and warmth and comfort in his short time.

:::hugs::

Thank you for sharing Gaudi with us. You made a wonderful tribute to him.

We just lost our 2 year old tabby Tango to FIP. He lasted only a week from diagnosis before he lost all interest in life and started having breathing difficulties.

It is bittersweet - knowing such love, but only for a short time.

Hugs all around to you and all others who have lost a cat to this evil disease.
