What is up with George Bush? - wicca

He must be very confident. He keeps alienating people and it's driving me nuts. Well, you all know about the gay marriage thing--which really isn't his place to decide because he was turning it into a religious debate and church and state are SEPERATE.. But I know there are a lot of wiccans on here and did you hear what he said a couple years ago when he was governor concerning whether or not wicca should be considered a religion?? Here you go:

"I don't think witchcraft is a religion. I would hope the military officials would take a second look at the decision they made." G.W. Bush

He said this because some US Troops wanted to have their religious (wiccan) rights protected like other religious groups do. How crazy is that? Who came to the US for freedom of religion?? Is this the land of the free or the home of the clones?? Ahh he always gets me going. I'm not even wiccan but I believe people have the right to choose what they believe in! How about this: your religious freedom is protected--if you're Christian..

UGH everyday I find another reason.......

Do you guys agree that wicca is a religion or is it just the next step to killing animals in satanic rituals (as other right wing politicians have said)..

He's wrong. Plain and simple. Wicca and paganism are definitely religions - and a religion that has been around longer than Christianity! It is a FAR cry from satanists!!

You know, I'm a conservative (meaning I take a conservative view of interpreting the Constitution), and it has always bothered me that being a political conservative has become more and more being a conservative Christian.

Anna, I know that you are have a very strong Christian faith, and I very much appreciate your willingness to see Wicca as an alternative religion and not just as satanism (that's what I was taught growing up in Church).

Oh how infuriating

I guess he doen't read up on things much before he spouts off about them. If he had bothered, he'd know that Paganism/Wicca/Witchcraft were around waaaaaay before Christianity.

Wicca has nothing to do with Satanism- its basically the opposite of it, with Earth and animals being highly revered and protected.

It scares me to think such ignorance is in charge of an entire country- and one capable of such destruction at that.

I'm a lapsed Catholic from a family including just about all major religions except Hinduism (that will probably come). I strongly object to politicians trying to influence people's religious beliefs, although I'm not religious, and become irate when religious leaders try to get involved in political decisions. I myself can find fault with all the mainstream and "alternative" religions, but I believe that religious freedom was and is one of the most important factors in the formation and existence of the U.S., so I react allergically when politicians or religious leaders don't respect the separation of church and state. You can take the girl out of Pennsylvania, but you can't take Pennsylvania out of the girl! The Bush administration doesn't want the creation of an Islamic state in Iraq, so it is ill-advised to impose Christian beliefs on its own armed forces. Minority rights also include the rights of religious minorities, and aren't politicians supposed to be protecting the rights of, and representing, all of their constituents? It is sad when our own president doesn't respect the constitution or the Bill of Rights.

Honestly, in his quote he is correct. Witchcraft is not a religion. Though Wicca is.

It was said in response though to the armed forces deciding that their wiccan soldiers should have the same protection and rights to practice their religion as others do.

Well, I understand that. He's just too stupid to realize what he, himself means.

Yes, Wicca is a religion, and Wiccans deserve equal rights just as everyone on this Earth does.

I was just stating that, though he was trying to say one thing, his statement actually came out correctly.

People interchange Wicca and Witchcraft, therefore confusing what they are trying to relay to others.

Wicca, a religion, Witchcraft, a way of life.

Bush just needs to glue his head on correctly and learn something for a change.

And I'm a moderate liberal, and these days, we are looked at as if we are far left radicals.

Bush is sure confused about the fundamentals of the constitution. I remember in one of the presidential debates, in trying to sell what he would do for the country, he said (paraphrased): "I will govern, because that's what governors do, they govern." Fundamental problem here - he doesn't know how to lead, only govern.

Personally I'm a humanist, and often afraid to admit that with the current intolerant administration in the office.

How do Wiccans differ from Druids? Can anybody give me some websites with pertinent information? Just out of curiosity. I went through a phase in my early teens where I did a lot of reading on pagan religions, Far Eastern religions, Satanism, LDS, and so on, but I've forgotten most of what I learned then.

http://www.witchscauldron.net/cauldron/lugaid.htm

There is a basic description of what is different.

Wiccans believe in 5 elements (Water, Earth, Fire, Air, Spirit).

Druids believe in 3 elements (Sun, Sea, Sky)?

There are also two forms of Druid (Druidry - Solitary, Druidism - Group).

If I come across more info I'll post it. I'm neither Druid or Wiccan, though I have influences from both.

I hope that link helps some.
