Hi, I'm new here but recently my husband and I came across a bobtail mom and her son at the park. Both were flea bitten and very under weight so we brought them home, treated for fleas and worms. They both have become wonderful pets in the short month we've had them but we recently noticed momma is pregnant! Her son is orange with full tail and long hair and mom is tabby striped with short hair, assuming a pixy bob. Son is roughly 12 weeks now and mother seems to be about 4 to 5 weeks pregnant, she's still relatively young, small frame still has kitten like play. I'm worried her son may have inpregnanted her? Is that possible and if so what problems could the litter have? We had appointments this coming week to have them fixed but instead I'm getting an ultrasound to confirm her pregnancy? Any advice, I'm worried for my momma cat who we named Love!
We now have for loving cats; Hope, Faith and our new comers Love andy her wild son Diabalo!
Thanks for any advice, very concerned; had one other oppsy pregnancy long ago between brother and sister, only one kitten survived and she was mentally challenged.

The son, if 12 weeks, is too young to impregnate her.

But fertile, free living female - yes, prob she is pregnant. Lotsa willing toms out there!

You can still spay her if you wish, as the pregnancy is not so advanced...   Not so nice, but medically fully possible and not so difficult for a decent experienced vet.

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!

Unlikely to be a Pixie Bob, they are a rare breed, likely just a tail less domestic.

Her son wouldn't have got her pregnant at just 12 weeks, precocious boys don't tend to work until 4 months. Do book him in for neutering asap though.

If mum is only newly pregnant she can be spayed. An ultrasound shouldn't be necessary, the vet should be able to palpitate her tummy

There are few pedigree Manx, it's also a naturally occurring mutation that shows up in domestics

Not all tailless cats are purebreds

Agreed it is unlikely the son impregnated her. However, the observation was made in another post that cats who have been outside often appear younger than they are. While at the vet's have them give you an age estimate and ask for the vet's thoughts on the matter. If it is still early enough I would agree with going ahead with the spay- if her kitten is in fact around 12 weeks she doesn't need to go through another pregnancy. If you do decide to keep the litter (no judgement that's between you and your vet) I would keep the son 100% separate from her until she is spayed. She can go back into heat pretty quickly after the kittens are born and he can go into sexual maturity at any time. Since you are guessing around 12 weeks and the vet won't be able to give you a totally accurate estimate I wouldn't take any chances at the possibility of them mating!

Good luck and let us know what you decide to do!

And, welcome to TCS!

I have been going to cat shows in the UK for quite a few years and I've never seen a Manx cat at one.  There are so few of them that I'm sure this cat is simply a cat that has had an accident, or happens to have a chance mutation making it's tail short.

Can I adopt the pregnant cat?
Please tell more,   how do you want to help her? Where do you live, etc... etc.

(no she has not delivered yet. At least one month still to go.)
