Over the river and through the woods...
The other night, DH and I were discussing where to go for our anniversary (October) this year. We usually try to get away at least overnight. We usually head east and go to the Ren Faire in Annapolis or visit DC, but this year we've decided to go west and visit Smoke Hole Caverns.

I'm pretty excited because I have never been in a cavern but I've always wanted to see one! My parents and I stopped at one on our way back from somewhere (can't even remember where) but mom had twisted her back and wasn't up for walking, so they gave me $5.00 to run in and buy something in the gift shop. What a tease!

So, have you ever toured a cavern and, if so, what did you think?

When I was a kid, we went to The Lost Sea in Tennessee, and that was pretty incredible. Coming from Texas, I loved that it was so cool in there. We almost got thrown out because my mother wouldn't stop touching the stalactites. I was glad the tour guides made her quit because I felt bad that they wouldn't grow anymore if they are touched!

More recently, we went spelunking last summer at Horne Lake Caves. Oooo I didn't like it at all, too many tiny places to squeeze through! I kept hoping we wouldn't have an earthquake or something while we were down there squishing between massive boulders. I was really uncomfortable in there, I'd never last on a submarine, either.

I always wanted to go to Luray Caverns! I used to visit a friend that lived in Luray and I kept bugging him to go, but he always said "it's just a hole in the ground".

I've been to Howe Caverns in Upstate New York.  I LOVED it.  It seemed like the grandest adventure!  Especially the boat ride they take you on down there.  The way I remember the end the boat stops when you are at the top of an underground waterfall from a tunnel looking place...you are looking into a big black hole in front of you....  Then they have everyone stand up, turn around and sit back down and the boat goes back.  LOL  Maybe it was just because I was a kid; but if my Dad hadn't been with me I'd probably have been petrified!

Oh we pass that on the way to visit my in-laws!  I want to go someday!  We should met up!  It just might be a few years before I'm up for taking my kiddos!  I'll have to see what it's like!

That looks like a nice place to go visit and stay!  DH and I are looking to do a trip for our 10 year anniversary next year and I cannot wait!  We rented a cabin (luxury cabin!) in the Smokies for our Honeymoon and I'm thinking it might be nice to go rent that same cabin!

Yes, years ago I visited Luray caverns in Virginia(?). I was a kid and from what little I can remember, it was cool and I liked it because it was different.
