My dad ordered something for my on August 1st from a website (back brace for one of my dogs). The seller is in the US (Washington State) and I'm in Canada (Ontario). I received a tracking number for the package (International Letter) but the tracking information hasn't been updated since August 5th when it was in a sorting facility in Los Angeles, CA. Is it normal to not have an update or a week (6 business days for USPS)? The seller is reputable, it was shipped the same day the order was placed. I don't order a lot from the states but when I have previously, it's been here fore now or I've at least gotten some sort of update via tracking.

I don't want to bother company if this is normal and I've previously just experienced abnormally quick shipping times? The only time I've had something take longer was when we had the Canadian Postal Strike. The package was sent First Class Mail International if that makes a difference.

I'm not in desperate need of this, but the sooner it arrives the better, so I'd like to get it straightened out if this is abnormal. One of my dogs (the puppy mill girl, Sadie) is having some back pain and absolutely hates crate rest, so the sooner it can get here, the better.

I'm also in Canada.   I've never tracked a parcel with USPS.  However, I have ordered stuff from the US that was shipped via USPS.  All I can tell you is that it took between 4 and 6 weeks for me to receive the parcel.

I'm not sure how tracking is done on international parcels, sorry :(. The main thing is that they don't have proper "tracking numbers"; just the Customs barcode. I think they're scanned at the border by Customs but I'm not positive. But I don't think a couple weeks from Southern California to Ontario is unusual. We usually tell people "7 to 10 business days". Hope it comes soon!

Thanks!

I wasn't too concerned, but a little worried because in the past I've seen movement out of the sorting facility and to the border by this length of time (arrive at sorting and left sorting facility on August 5th). I keep double checking on Canada Posts' website but it hasn't arrived in Canada yet so the "tracking number" doesn't work.

I'll give it until midweek and if the status hasn't changed then I'll email the company.

lt's probably hooked up in customs.

l order a ton of stuff from the States, and sometimes the tracking is updated daily, other times the parcel is here before l get an update. l wouldn't worry at all.

I've lived in the USA and Japan and I would honestly rather ship to Japan than Canada. Stuff gets there much quicker. Packages seem to hit a no-man's-land once they reach the border. I've heard its the oh-so-relaible Canadian post office's fault things are so slow. Even then tracking sometimes doesn't update until things are almost there (that was true in Japan as well).

I order stuff from the U.S. all the time (shopping is terrible on the island). You have to allow 4-6 weeks for packages. Usually, UPS or USPS tracking is updated while the package is in the U.S. but once it hits customs in Canada, there are no more updates.

Receiving a tracking order from the vender does not mean the item has been shipped, though. Vendors can get a tracking number before (or without ever) going to the post office. The tracking record should show if it has shipped; if not I would contact the vender and ask what day it will be shipped.

Canada Post will not have that tracking number since it wasn't sent from Canada. And the U.S. can't keep you informed since they don't know where the package is once it crosses the border.

I can see Washington state from my kitchen, but letters my sister sends me from Seattle take 2 weeks. If she sends another letter to Houston the same day, it arrives there the next day, go figure.
