I've seen this because I rotate fiber sources for my kitties in their raw diet. I use rice bran from Bob's Red Mill, and I always, always add additional taurine because of this issue. Thankfully I only have to add a very small amount (1/2 teaspoon rice bran per 1lb of food) to their food from our rotated fiber sources.

I would suggest to anyone that feeds canned food with rice bran (and/or brown rice) in it to also supplement additional taurine. JMO, but I wouldn't feed a canned food that had brown rice in it--or any other grains. It is good to be aware of this issue.

No, it's not for balancing our raw diet, it's for a source of fiber for my kitties so they don't get constipated. Rice bran has a decent fiber content. I don't use it for any other purpose than fiber. I think if all of my kitties had been on a raw diet all their lives the fiber wouldn't need to be added, but since they weren't on raw, I rotate fiber sources--rice bran being one of them. Make sense?
