I have this persian cat (flat nose) of mine who just gave birth about a month ago. I have 1 kitten that was like close from dying. He's very weak, unable to carry himself up, and when he's trying to stand up, he always fell down. I have confirmed that he has no Colds, and not coughing. I give him antibiotics and feed him using a syringe bottle with a Lactose Free milk. Please, i dont want this kitten to die. Help please.

Also one thing i had noticed is that he has a red thing in his eyeball. I dont know what that is... please help.

He has 4 siblings, the rest were very healthy, he's so different from the others. I could tell that he is not a runt.

I already took him to the vet. But they said they could only give him nothing but antibiotics because of the risk of overdosage. :'(

Hi guys! I seriously need help. I'm from the Philippines and it is really hard to find a vet here that is specializing in cats. That's the reason why it is so hard to tell what's really wrong with my kitten. I have a 1 month old kitten and about a week ago he was just fine, he was feeding properly with his siblings and his was properly nurturing them, but all of a sudden, i noticed that when i took pictures of him, his blue eyes reflect red color and when i looked at his eyes, they are still blue but there is a red veiny lining around the his cornea. I don't know what that means. His siblings have nothing like this. Then he suddenly can't stand properly and he was always off-balance. He could hardly raise his head and always stumbling when walking.

I immediately took him to the vet but they didnt run any test on him because they said he was too young. They only give him a vitamin and antibiotic (ammoxicilin). I'm also force feeding him because he can't suck milk from his mom anymore because he can't control his head. He is a flat-faced persian kitten by the way. After 3 days of medication, i noticed that he became lively again, he can already stand, but still off-balance and still falling down but he can already raise his head and not falling on the flooring. I also placed him back with his mom and his siblings and I saw that he was suckling milk together with them so I said to myself that he is recovering well. Then just this morning, he became very sick again and he couldnt even stand anymore. His can't raise his head and he's just lying down on his bed. I tried feeding him several times but he would only drink so little. I thought he was going to die but it has been 20 hours and he is still alive but I'm noticing that he is becoming weaker by the hour.

Ive been researching and looking for answers about his condition but I still cant find anything. I dont want to bring him to the vet again because like what I said, I do not trust vets here because they dont seem to know what they are doing. I want my kitten to survive this but also, I feel so bad for him and I just think that it would be best if he'd let go to stop the pain and suffering.. I dont know what to do. If I could still save him, I will. Please guys, if you have experienced the same thing or you know anything about this condition, please dont hesitate to let me know and I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

When you say "lactose-free milk", do you mean something like Lactaid or real kitten formula? If it's not the formula, that's what you need. Plain milk--lactose or not--is not sufficient for his nutrition. KMR is a popular brand (your vet should have it or find it in a pet store). Keep feeding him, cleaning him (or does his mother still clean him?), etc. And if he stops taking the bottle, ask your vet about tubefeeding.

In one of your other posts you mentioned that the red in his eye showed up in a photo. That is normal and is caused by the light reflected off the back of the eyeball. It happens in all flash photos, of people as well as cats, unless you use the 'red-eye remover' button on the camera that produces several flashes, so that the eye pupil has time to adjust and closes, reducing the reflection. So that is one less thing to worry about! I can't offer any other advice on your kitten though, just keep him hydrated, give him whatever medication the vet gives you, and make him comfortable. I hope he pulls through.

Re the red in his eye, if you're talking about from photos as posted above then it's normal. If you mean he's always got red in his eye that is not normal, did you not ask the vet about it?

Are you a Persian breeder? Perhaps your mentor can offer some advice.

I'd be giving the little one nutri drops twice a day. As said he also needs proper kitten formula, not just lactose free milk, or you can make kitten glop. Has he always been sickly? How much and how often are you feeding? How much does he weigh?

At 4 weeks he needs about 100ml over 24 hours, feeds 4 hours apart around the clock. They should also be starting to take an interest in mums solid food.

Im just using a regular lactose free milk, not a real kitten formula, it's very expensive here. Yes, im cleaning him from time to time, and his mother always comes by and check him, lick him until he's clean. As of now, he's not getting any better. He can't still move his head up. Something tells me there's something in his head that he cannot seem to move.

No, I mean in reality, there is something red on the side of his eyeball. Not in the pupil, but the side of the pupil. Not in the picture, i took a close look in the side of his eye. There's a red line or something..

i am new here but i have had several litters from strays . for some reason the moms seem to think my place is THE place to give birth. not sure why but..

my story is ...we have had a total of 3 kittens who for no obvious reason were weak and really went downhill really fast. but i have developed what my kids call the "Peach kit" . i keep it on hand at all times just in case we find another of the little stinkers. so here it goes. First thing to keep in mind a new kitten CANNOT digest food when it or the food is cold so warm the food just to were it feels warm on your wrist. also your towels to wrap him in if you can toss them in the dryer for a couple minutes to get him warmed up. NOT hot just warm.

1~ get yourself a can of Powered kitten replacement formula. [ powder lasts longer and is more economical] follow formula mixing directions exactly using sterilized water!!

2~ 1 box of Gerber RICE cereal and

3~1 jar of  Gerber CHICKEN with broth baby food. Do not get Beechnut it has salt, pepper, and onion powder in it no baby needs that.

also you will need clean towels. a shaker bottle that you can store in the fridge and a syringe or dropper. i find mine take to a dropper better.

week 1~  once you have the formula and the dropper make up a batch and pour a little into a clean and i do mean clean bowl or cup. using the towel wrap your little one up and hold him close on his tummy and drip a little on his mouth just a tiny bit. he will lick it off and most of the time will start suckling. If he does not try putting a tiny bit into his side cheek. do this every two hours increasing amount each day for the 1st week. you should see improvement within the 1st day or so.

week 2 ~ add about a teaspoon of rice cereal to your babies milk. continue to feed this for his meals by now you will notice a gain in weight that you can see and feel.

week 3~ add your chicken to his milk and cereal. i usually make enough milk to last a couple days and add the whole jar to it and shake really well before feeding. by now he should be doing well enough that he is standing and eating from a bowl on his own.

Now some of you won't agree with my methods but they do work. just ask Peaches she couldn't stand or even hold up her tiny head at 3 weeks but now she is a happy very healthy 4 month old!  Wobbles is now 2 months old and we almost lost him but now he is running all over the place happily enjoying his kitten hood. i swear by this and i hope it helps you with your baby.

EDIT NOTE:  i said feed every 2 hours but really i feed mine whenever the act hungry whether it be 2 or 4 hours i do not wake them to eat. and that was just until they are gaining weight steadily.

Unfortunately raising kittens is not a cheap exercise. For this kitten to have a chance you need to properly feed him, and that means expensive kitten formula, or the handmade Kitten Glop (you can google for recipies)

It's cruel to not feed him properly and let him suffer, if he's not getting any better another vet visit or at least calls to other breeders (assuming your Persian is a registered breeding cat) is needed.

Can you get goat milk? I have raised several kittens on that, and it is low enough in lactose to be OK. Also natural live yoghurt is good for kittens. I can't offer any more advice on the eye - a vet needs to look at it. I hope you succeed.

hello jenny ranson, i sent you a private message regarding the double account. Rufino John is my brother =) my name is Steven and out cattery's name is Mystic Cattery. Could you still post the one i posted in the other thread because I think that is more detailed. Thank you! We seriously need help with our kitten and the vet doesnt seem to know what's wrong with him. We're afraid we might lose him, but we can see in him that he's fighting and wants to survive. So we're really doing our best to cure whatever illness he may have

How sad a registered breeder would complain about the cost of kitten formula, it's part of breeding and should always be in your kitten kit. It's an expensive hobby, but a tin of formula is really nothing compared to other expenses.

Does your vet have other breeder clients? Perhaps ask at the next show who others use

Also the Mystic Cattery prefix belongs to a Spyhnx breeder

I have added the Mystic Cattery post to this thread, so that all information about this poor little kitty is in the same place.
