Ever since we left NC back to GA we have been living on 8 acres of woods. There are a few neighbors, fewer cars, and between our part of the fence and the neighbor's parts meeting it is mostly fenced in. We stayed with mil at first until they moved the storage out of the small house on the hill behind them, and she only allowed kitty visits inside, but there is a large covered porch with plenty of places to cuddle down, and they became a pack with her cats. Now they like to be out most of the time. They are allowed in any time they want, but mostly they stay out during the day.

Fluffy has appointed herself the guardian of the garden and chases small animals away from it.

Scooter keeps squirrels away from mil's, she hates them, but they chase him instead of him chasing them, It is hilarious to watch a 15 lb cat fleeing from a squirrel.

When they finish their jobs, they lie on the patio and nap. There is an old rusty iron skillet that Scooter curls up in and rests his chin on the handle. They love it here, dh, is glad to be home, so I guess this where we will be staying.

It sounds like they really approve of your new home. That's funny about squirrels chasing Scooter. My mom had three dogs, two Labs and an old Schnauzer mix, and the squirrels would chase Rufus but give the big dogs a wide berth.

I don't really believe in letting animals run free outside because of the dangers, but it sounds rather "safe" where you are living, so I might be inclinded to do the same as you.   They sound like they are having fun!  I too want to see a picture of the kitty in the skillet!

Back when I was a small kid, maybe 3 or 4 years old. I remember we had a do that was 1/4 German Sheppard and 3/4 Timber Wolf.  His name was "Champ", short for "Champion".  He was huge; and oh so smart!  We used to have a hutch in the back where my Dad had 2 jack rabbits that were our pets.  He used to let them run around the yard while supervised.  Champ loved to play with the bunnies and they liked to play with him. He would lay down and they would cuddle with hiim or hop all over him and he didn't mind.   Sometimes he would chase them, and often you would see him running with them chasing him!    He would run up onto the portch stoop and bark at the door as if he were afraid!  LOL  Then he would turn around and chase them.

They are still so spoiled rotten. My great feline hunters are all piled on my bed right now because it has been raining, and nobody wants to get their dainty little paws wet. Fluffy invited herself to lunch at mil's earlier. We had the screen doors open and she has long learned to pull the door open, so I decided to hook the screen because mil hates it when the cats on jump on anywhere that is not made for sitting. So Miss Fluffy figures out how to unhook the door and strolls in like she was invited. She is such a brat! I tell her all the time she's lucky she's so cute or I would beat the fur off her. She knows better.
