My grandfather is in the hospital. He'd had three strokes in the past two and a half weeks, and a couple more in the two years before that. Anyway, he went to the hospital a week ago after the second of the more recent strokes. The left side of his body was basically useless.

Well, yesterday, he suddenly went nearly comatose, and they did another CT scan this morning. He's had a fourth stroke . . . but a massive one. A third of his brain tissue was destroyed in just that one stroke. He also has pneumonia, since he can't swallow right and his saliva has been going into his lungs. His brain is now swelling and hemorrhaging, too.

The doctors have given him two weeks to live, and that will only be in this coma-like state. It's basically a race between the swelling and bleeding, the pneumonia, and the possibility of him having another stroke. One will kill him, it's just a matter of time. I'm really sad right now.

I'm not really asking for prayers that he'll get well, since I don't think that's possible. I just want prayers to help me be strong for my mom (it's her dad), and that whatever happens, that he suffer as little as possible. Thanks for listening.

I'm so sorry, Aurora Viva.
How old is your grandfather?
It's very difficult to lose a member of the family.

I remember when my daughter's great-great grandmother had a stroke (she was 86). She lasted about a week in the hospital. I don't think she was suffering but was very much afraid to die. The last few days she was comatose.

The night that she passed, we were told that she sat right up, looked at her family and smiled. Then she went peacefully.

Many blessings to you and your family in this most difficult time.

Laurie

I'm so sorry about your Grandfather. I know how you feel. My Dad passed away from a stroke in 1995. My heart goes out to you and your family. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

If you need to talk please email me or pm me
Just remember that it is okay to cry, Everyone told me not to cry when my grandfather was sick, but sometimes you just need to.

Right here! :)
Oh, I´m so sorry Viva.
I hope he will not have to suffer much, and send you some (((be strong))) vibes! But when you feel you just cannot be strong, give in to that feeling and allow yourself to cry, your mum will understand.
(((((HUGS)))))

I'm sorry Viva. I'm praying for you and family. My greatgrandfather passed away two years ago. One of the main two arteries in his neck was 100% blocked causing a stroke. He lived through that stroke but they had to perform immediate emergency surgery to attempt to remove the block. They couldn't remove the blockage and told him that it would cause another stroke and he wouldn't survive it. Less than a week later he had another stroke and passed away.

Lots of love and prayers going your way. If you need to talk or vent or just plain cry you can email me.

Prayers to you.

I lost my grampa on April 18, 2003. It was terrible. He was 102, and even though he had lived such a long and prosperous life, it made it no easier. He spent his final 10 days in the hospital, and I drove 140 miles roundtrip every day to be w/ him until his final moments. I feel your pain....try to be strong and know that once he goes he will be looking down upon you like a guardian angel.

Viva, like most of the others, i've "been there, done that". Will be praying for strength for you and your family, and a peaceful, painless time when your grandfather passes out of this world.

P. S. You can cry and still be strong, BTW!
