Hi,

My 12 year old cat is suffering from a really bad tooth infection which we are trying to cure. She is being given special diet and attention. From the past three days she has started peeing on us while we are sleeping. I am unable to understand whether this is a behavioural problem or health as many people suggest this might be because of a urinary infection. Is there some way to check whether she has an infection or she is upset about something?? And any natural remedies for stress in cats?? I really need help as we dont have a vet in our town and it is really difficult for me to take my cats to him.

First question.  Has your cat seen the vet for the tooth infection. I am not sure there is anything you can do without the vet's help.  Also, anytime a cat quits using the litter and doing it somewhere else is a sign of a problem, maybe serious.  It could be because of the tooth infectoin and the fact your cat is sick and needs antibiotics, or the cat could have a urinary problem.  There are some times when it might not be bad to put off seeing the vet.  In your case though, I think you really need to take your cat to be checked for the tooth problem if it hasn't already been done, and also for a possible urinary infection.  Good luck.

I'm all for natural remedies and treatments, but in your instance I feel this is very close to an emergency situation, so even though it may be difficult for you to take your kitty to the vet, you must do so ASAP. A special diet and attention just aren't going to cut it. In conjunction with the really bad tooth infection, the peeing on the bed/you is, to me, a clear signal that she needs help from the vet. Tooth infections can spread to their heart, liver, and kidneys...with deadly consequences. Please take her to the vet ASAP.
