Well i am at the point of trying to figure out what i am being told. Shadoe escaped for about 24hrs a couple of weeks ago. Upon her return to us, thank to her microchip and external tag everything was normal. She was her usual self, running looking out windows and trying to escape again.

Then about a week ago, things changed. Sounded like she had a cold, she became lethargic, her diet has definately changed, and since has lost weight, just how much i dont know. She doesnt have the weight to lose. She is still eating but not massive amounts. Litter trays have been used like before.  I do know that she will need an ear treatment as there is a large wax build up in one ear.  Yesterday we found out that she as not able to jump from one chair to the other, she landed on the floor half way between both of them.

We have made a vet appointment toget things looked at, but i am doing the what coukd it be thing. Wondering if this could be a related tendency of pregnancy or something else. Any ideas?

Well, it could be pregnancy or a URI.  Either way, I would look into getting her spayed ASAP.  Trust me... Kittens are fun and cute but a lot of work and it can be difficult to find them all responsible homes.  Plus, it will be healthier for her to be spayed.  She will not try to get out as much and if she does there won't be the worry or the chances of STI's.  Not to mention all of the other health benefits of spaying.

It does not sound like an effect of pregnancy to me, especially the weight loss and eating less. She needs to see a vet as soon as possible.

Going to the vet tomorrow morning.

One theory i have had running through my head is an infection of some sort.

Ummmmm, URI and STI??? Can you spell those out for me?

URI is an upper respitory infection... Probably what she has.  An STI, sexually transmitted infection well... she was only out 24 hours and though that is long enough chances are someone found her and brought her in pretty fast since it was the microchip that located her and brought her back to you.  Just take her to the vet asap and ask about getting her spayed asap.

Aye, spaying has already crossed our minds. Never really had this issue and she only went out when I took her out on a leash.

The micro chip and external  tag on her harness was worth the cost of everything when she wandered outside.

Been to the vet

Heart is fine, no signs of an URI, which is good news.

Ears have an infection in them, so antibiotics prescribed.

She also has tartar build up and a touch of gingivitis. Which may be contributing to the weight loss. Have a prescription for meloxicam

She got 2 injections at the vet to begin treatments as well.

Will be looking at dental work and spaying in a couple of weeks. If this helps then that can be done, if not, then we look further.

Just an update. Glad it is not worse news though. And found out we should be starting her on senior food as well. That will be purchased when we hit the store next for food.

Hi there :wavey:,
Great to hear that she will be okay. Spaying is a great idea, and it's necessary to get that done. I just wanted to add, senior food is really not necessary. If she is eating a high quality grain free diet, it should be perfect for an older kitty. :D "Senior" cat foods are usually just the same food marketed as senior, just to attract pet owners to buy them.
