A bit over a year ago, my fiance and I lost our apartment. She went to live with her mother, I moved into a small apartment with two friends. Our cats were with her, being well taken care of. As time passed, this woman became more concerned with herself and her immediate gratification than with anything else. This caused us to split up, and for her family to become distant with her. Now, her parents are moving out east without her and won't take the cats. Now, the only option seems to be to put the cats in a shelter.

We have two. A female calico named Terra, and an all black male named Ichi. Terra was always my ex's cat, they took to each other very well. Ichi was a total daddy's boy. That cat became my best friend. The past few months without him have been heartbreaking enough, and now that my ex is doing nothing to find them a new home, it looks like they'll have to be put into a shelter. I can't bear the thought of them being locked away like that, and I would love the opportunity to take Ichi home with me when my living situation changes. The apartment I'm in now is small, and they already have a cat, so we're not sure that taking Ichi would be a great idea.

I would like to see Terra taken in by someone who can give her the proper attention she needs. She can be a little moody and likes to keep to herself. She's always been a bit off since she was a kitten, and I really believe that being in a shelter would destroy her. Ichi is a great cat, he loves attention and people. I would love to see him somewhere I could maybe get him back from when I'm in a better financial and/or living situation, but if I had to part with him, I'd be happy knowing he wasn't going to be in a cage somewhere.

If anyone can help me out... please. This is breaking my heart. I'm going crazy trying to find a solution to this, and it's driving me mad that my ex can't care less. I live in Mineola on Long Island. If anyone can help, please contact me.

Please help me!

These are some cat rescue groups on the Island, have you checked with them for any help?  I know of the North Shore Animal League maybe they can help to find homes for them. Best of luck..

I am really sorry and sad for you and your two kitties. This must be so hard on you and my heart goes out to you. :hugs:. Yes, having to go live in a shelter will be so very hard on them. I surely hope that you can find a solution to this dilemma. Maybe try calling all friends and relatives. Put up flyers in vets offices and pet stores. Calling rescues and trying to find a temporary foster home till you find another solution. Also, small apartments and small spaces can easily be made bigger by adding multiple vertical climbing options for the cat's. It might be worth a try to take them both in. I wish you the best of luck in finding them a new home. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
