"TO BE DESTROYED 8/3/12
Manhattan Center

My name is MARY. My Animal ID # is A0938004.
I am a female black amer sh mix. The shelter thinks I am about 6 MONTHS old.

I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 07/06/2012 from NY 11369, owner surrender reason stated was OWNER SICK".

***TO ADOPT THIS ANIMAL THROUGH THE PUBLIC ADOPTION SITE, PLEASE GO TO THE FOLLOWING LINK AND SCROLL DOWN TO BOTTOM TO LOG IN AND RESERVE THE ANIMAL. THERE WILL BE A $50 DEPOSIT REQUIRED. THIS OPTION IS AVAILABLE UNTIL 6AM TOMORROW. http://www.nycacc.org/PublicAtRisk.htm **

DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the cat. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the cat’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the cat. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how cats fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

For more information on a particular cat, email [email protected] but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions.

:vibes::vibes: For Mary.... My biggest dream in life is for every person in the whole world to spay and neuter their cat's. For there to be an end in sight for the world to have no more feral cat's having kittens. Then we would not have so many cat's being euthanized in shelters. Again, I said this was a dream :9: One that will never come true. :shame:

It is very sad.

 It is a  tragedy.

There are people who do help as many as they can find homes and rescues and adoption. If anyone is interested in helping these cats at the New York City Animal shelters there is a group on Facebook and you can go to the Mayors Alliance for New York City Animals site on the web to find rescues that are helping. You can also go to the shelters. Many  rescues are looking for fosters. Fosters save lives.

I visited the Death Row Cats a few times on Facebook but have stopped because I live on the west coast and there is absolutely nothing I can do. Looking at all those faces, some utterly pathetic and some looking bright and friendly just haunted me. Even if I lived close by, I could take a few but they are euthanizing 50 every day at a Manhattan shelter.  Many are young cats, friendly and appealing, and some are kittens only a few months old, perfectly adoptable to the average family. And, why are they scooping up the street cats who look like they have been TNR'd. That's a terrifying end for such a life.
