I have the Samsung Galaxy S, Love it!! (Except it doesn't have a flash for LED/light/camera purposes)

I will never touch an apple product. Too much hype, price, and for what you get- just not worth it.

I love android!!

The sync is cool.. You can sync (combine) your calendar, gmail etc... So if you change your calendar either place, it shows up in both.

It's also open source.
I'd like to expand on what Nebula said. From what I learned recently, Android provides everyday people with entry into the highly stable, highly secure world of Linux, which, from what little I understand, is almost immune to malware. If my memory's right, Linux started in Europe and more stable than Windows OS and even iOS too. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I've never touched an iPhone and I've read a number of negatives about it on the internet, so my stance right now is that I too will never need to touch an Apple product.

Sync'ing was relatively easy on my Prism phone (to Gmail). I like the sync; it's so convenient.

I also like that I can dictate into the phone and words appear. This cuts down on typing. (My guess is: iPhone has it too. Android calls it "voice input engine")  Overall it seems Android is a better bang for our buck and I'm glad I chose Android over iPhone. After reading a number of negatives about iPhone, I'm tempted to call it iCrud.  When I think about the money I saved it puts a smile on my face.
I suppose I could tolerate the iPhone, but I hate the despotic tyranny of Apple on the subject of apps, etc.

Yes I heard something about Apple charges for apps, whereas on Android they're 100% free and over 6,000 to choose from.

Natalie and everyone, fyi, supposedly Samsung is coming out with its new "phablet" phone this month (Aug. 29?), and it runs on Android. It's a combination of a mini-tablet-and-phone-in-one.  For shoppers open-minded about having a large phone (Natalie, I know you're not one) this is something worth keeping an eye and ear open for. I'm adding it to this thread because it doesn't really need a thread of its own.

Apple just announced that Youtube will no longer be an approved app on iphones. If they do it the way they usually do, it will just suddenly quit working the next time your phone updates. Nothing you can do a out it. This is what I was talking about when I mentioned the "Apple software tyranny."

Interesing consideration that!  The girl at work with the iPhone said that all  of the same apps work on both phones. Is that not the case?

Did Apple say why they were removing YouTube?

And the real reason is that google and Apple are competitors and google owns youtube.

Natalie, you referred to it as auto lock just now. In Android, it's called "screen time out." I set mine to 10 minutes, because LOL I'm not as lazy as the manufacturer thinks I am!
(Plus, many manufacturers fail to realize how annoying their assumptions can be!)

So, I just learned on my Prism phone (which is Android) how to make my screen protect itself from random dialing  (even without (or with, doesn't matter) the annoying auto lock/auto screen time out which I hate). It's  what's called a "short press" (as opposed to a "long press") on the power button. This is good because it blacks out my screen which takes care of the embarassing random dialing issue. To gain full access to everything again I simply "short press" the power button again. This is a built-in feature I would've known about if I had simply read the manual, LOL. (I'm not big on manuals; I'm more of a hands-on-learn-and-oops kind of person)  I think of it as "protect" mode; meaning it protects against random dialing.

("Long press shuts down, short press protects." This is what I tell myself mentally)
Seems kinda silly to quote myself, but I just wanted to add: to get rid of fingerprints from you screen, "protect mode" is a good way to do a quick wipedownn without having to power down or risk random dialing or deleting stuff I want to keep. I bet all smartphones have "protect mode", even iPhone. Anyway I heard rumors the next iPhone is going to be nearly $800 retail? Anyone else heard this?  Without question I spent a fraction of that on my Android phone.

Definitely personal preference. I have an Android, the BF has an iPhone. I don't really like the way his phone works, and he doesn't really like the way my phone works. I enjoy the variety of free apps for mine, he isn't much into apps so it doesn't matter.

Both of our phones act up on occasion, so neither of us can talk and say one is more perfect than the other.

One of my co-workers decided to join the smartphone crowd and he dithered for several weeks back and forth with iPhone v. Android. I have a Droid X and will be upgrading next month to the Droid Razr Maxx, when my current contract expires. I gave him my phone for the day; he made phone calls on it, played some Angry Birds and BubbleShoot, just messed around with it for the day.

Last week, he got his Droid Razr Maxx. He absolutely loves his new phone. I'm quite jealous of his phone.

I think it's all in what you're used to and what you want to play with.
