I have very short hair and bangs --- but my hair gets frizzy and the bangs curl up into little corkscrews --- which i HATE.     Want to buy a flat iron to straighten the top and the bangs.  Does anyone know much about flat irons?    Hairdresser said to get one with a small barrel since my hair is short.    I've seen them at much as $99 and as little as $15.  Of course I don't want an expensive one.  Any info woud be appreciated.

I used to do hair, many years ago.  For just that small area, any inexpensive small one should do the trick!

The ionic & ceramic ones are less damaging for your hair though, (especially fine bangs), so if you can find one that isn't to expensive, I would go with that. (you could always check a Sally's Beauty Supply). ;)

"Hope that helps!"

As said a cheap one will do, I straighten all my hair and love my GHD, pricey but worth it

I have a flat iron and don't like it very much at all. It's a mid-range one.   I think it's because my hair is very fine that it seems to leave iron marks/kinks in the hair.

I bought something that I saw on television and I really love it!  It's called "Instyler" and it's a hair straightener or curling iron, with a brush that polishes the hair.  Unfortunately it isn't cheap. You have to order 2, and the total price for the both of them is about $150.00.  I don't know why they sell them in pairs, but at a price of $75.00 each, it is a good value. And it's so easy to use.

You can also find the instyler cheaper on Ebay, lots of people selling that second unit they had to purchase.

I should look at selling mine through a local site where I live. I cringe at the thought of eBay. I've never bought anything from there because I hear so many horror stories about people being ripped off with scams and such.  So it's not usually a site I go to to look for things.

Oh that's a shame, I get so many bargains on Ebay (mostly cat related
) and had no issues. I mostly deal with Aussies unless the shipping is really decent/free from overseas.

I know Amazon is popular in the US as well, we don't have that here and shipping from the US is usually more than the item is worth.

I work in the professional beauty industry and know some about flat irons, brands, etc.... I am not a hair desser, but have experience.... I think :lol3:
I would not buy a very cheap one.... IMHO not woth it, and it can damage your hair. It will create hot spots on the plates, not getting hot in some areas, and too hot in other areas.
You definitely want a ceramic plate, but nowadays, most are. Ceramic tourmaline even better.
Even though they all go 450F today, do not use that setting, especially on your bangs - you will fry your hair.... Use under 400F.
If you will only do your bangs, get a 1/2" plate, so you can get closer to the roots..... If you will do your entire hair, a 1" plate will work best.
CHI is sold at Target and retail outlets - not the best anymore.... used to be pretty much the best...... But for a home user, it does a very good job still.
GHD and FHI are very good brands, so is Infrashine. You can get good deals for them on ebay. Another good place to buy, is folica.com Shipping is free, and they have great reviews.
Always use a heat protectant cream/serum on your heair before flat ironing - don't want to do that without it, especially if you do it often.....

Funny you should mention that, Lana....I just went to a new stylist last night. Color, highlights, and she straightened my hair, too. It's the first time in my life that my hair is straight (I have naturally very wavy/curly hair). If we lived closer together, we could order the Instyler together and then you could take one and I'd take the other.

A girl at work is interested in my second instyler. I showed her some of the youtube videos.  I'm giving her mine to try for a couple of weeks and if she likes it she will buy my second one for $40.00 Canadian. A real bargain.

I have a Chi and love it. Gary got it for me one year for Christmas and it has been great! It heats up and cools down quickly and works great for both straightening and curling.
