I am kind of at a loss for what to do, and I am turning to the internet in case there is anyone with an idea.

I am on vacation on Chincoteague Island, in Virginia. For the past several days, a stray cat has been coming to our cabin every night. She is obviously a lost housepet - she is completely comfortable and socialized around humans, very friendly and affectionate. She is also very skinny, and obviously not doing a great job fending for herself. We have been feeding her, but we leave tomorrow.

We got a cat carrier and tried to catch her but it turned out to be for nothing - there are only two shelters nearby and both are completely full. We are not able to adopt her ourselves, and we don't know anyone here to even approach about taking her. I know the odds of anyone on here being able to do anything directly are pretty nil, but I was just hoping there might be some kind of online resource I could at least post info on, where there's a chance someone local might be able to do something for this cat.

We will be mentioning this to the folks who own the cabin, maybe they can keep feeding her at least, but anything else I can do over the internet to help this cat, I would love any advice.

She may be the "cabin cat" and lives there. . .better talk to the owner of the cabin. Hate to steal anybody's cat. If you do find she's really homeless, can you take her to a no-kill rescue on the mainland?

Yeah, the cabin owner may be the key here. She may either already have this job of cabin cat, or otherwise, she may get this place. As she is friendly etc...  Why not, it may be even a extra plus for the cabin owner, something drawing in paying guests.  :)

If this is not interesting for the owner, I would in your place have set up messages "found friendly cat seeks home". With a little luck she could be spontan - adopted. (instead of adoption fee some token to a charity organization - to secure they adopter is serious).

As you are leaving tomorrow this is rather too late. But perhaps the cabins owner agree to be the contact person?

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!

Welcome and I wonder if this cat belongs to the "cabin" owner?? I worry because you say she is very thin. :( Were you ever able to talk with the management of the cabins? :cross: :vibes::vibes: So sorry about this and I may be late in reading this as you were leaving today.
