So I just added to a previous post of my about my now 6 month old kitten throwing up after eating.

I was just looking at my kitties vomit and I'm wondering if I am feeding her too often. The stuff she threw up looked like about 2 or more tablespoons.  Much more than we usually give her.

I feed her this morning at 5am and then my husband fed her at 11am because we were leaving for the day.  I don't know when she finished it and I'm not sure when she threw it back up.  It was somewhat moist when we found it this evening but not totally dry.  But this throw up looks like what I feed her at 5 and at 11 am........and that is when I thought I might be feeding her too often.

She doesn't show any other signs of illness.  Other than throwing up once in a while.  She had gone over 10 days without doing it.  I hate bringing her to the vet.  She hates the carrier, the ride, the vet etc.  She hissess and is very uncooperative with them.

The last 2 times she has thrown up my husband had fed her and he is admitting that he might put too much dry food on her wet food.  I put just a couple morsals of dry food on her wet food to entice her.  But now he is admitting that he might give her too much dry food.

QUESTION.....How often should I feed her? We were doing about 3 times a day--about 1 1/2 tablespoon of wet and a little dry (of course my husband is admitting to too much dry now.)  but she seems hungry a lot. And lately we have been doing it more times.

ANOTHER QUESTION....I've read where dry food will start to swell when wet.  And I've also read where dry food that becomes wet will start to grow bacteria after a while.  Is that true?  Maybe I should forget the dry food.  I was just doing it to entice her to eat the wet food.

I did get some better wet food for her. But I have not made the change.  Why I have no idea.

She is 6 months old.

Any thoughts?

That is correct, do not add any dry food to the wet food, this can make a kitty sick if the food sits for more than a 1/2 hour. Bacteria will start to grow on the dry food . I dont think this is why your kitty is throwing up though. Was it Purina that you are feeding? Im sure you have seen the consensus here on that kind of food. If you can get a wet food that is grain free and higher in protein, this will satisy your kitty more. Feeding 3 times a day should be fine. Its either the food you are feeding, or another underlying issue. first try switching foods and see if that helps.  You really should not need to feed dry food, she should get the needed calories from the wet. When your kitty gets to about 8 months then you can start counting the calories. Weight of your cat times 13.6 then add 70, this will give you the amount of calories to feed in a day. Also depends on activity level of your kitty.

I realize that the food isn't the greatest--I think it is better than some of the other wet food out there.

But what if she doens't eat it?

Since I'm using 2 different foods now for her, should I gradually introduce the better I have to her or can I just give her some and see if she eats it?  I don't want her to get sick off of the better food because I switched her too fast.  And I don't want mess with her bowels.
