Great news on your girlie!!  Glad she's coming out of her fear and depression.

She worried me a little this morning.  I gave her a Capstare tablet last night to kill her fleas, and I'm afraid it might have upset her stomach a little.  She didn't eat much of the food I gave her last night, and when I fed her this morning, she didn't gobble it down like she has been.  When they're as skinny as she is (I can feel every vertebra and rib and do an abdominal exam with no problem), you worry about even a day of lost eating.

Poor thing. The bad thing is even if you'd chosen a topical med, like Advantage if she licks any of it (which almost any cat will), she would most likely lose her appetite too. I hate those drugs but they are a very necessary evil. I guess I should say "I hate parasites".

She looks like she has the Snowshoe Siamese gene to me. Her paws are white. She has a white chest & whiskers. Those are Snowshoe traits. I'm not saying she's pedigreed, but she is unique and beautiful.

Yeah, I looked up Capstar, and one of the possible side effects is loss of appetite.

She's just beautiful - and thank you for helping her.    Do you think that "maybe" she can stay with you and your wife permanently?

I really can't keep her and still be able to help other cats.  We've had good luck at getting our fosters adopted.

The shelter director yesterday said she is almost sure the person who brought her in said she had had several litters of kittens.  I can't imagine she's young enough for that.

She is awfully pretty. Surely somebody will want her, especially once she plumps up. If she's already purring at you so early on, she seems to be outgoing enough to hook her paw round someone's heart.

"Several litters"... Ouch. You'd think they'd have her spayed after the first one, at least. How irresponsible. Has she been spayed now, or is she still going into heat? I know spaying is a major surgery and maybe she'll have to gain some weight back first. But one of the starved cats I rescued, a girl named Olivia, got much better after she was spayed. It seems the heat cycles had been taking a lot out of her. But your vet will know better than I do about that.

Mike - you and Dottie are such good souls.Bless you for helping her. She is a lovely girl. My long term foster, Marigold, was listed at the shelter as 5-6. The rescue vet said 8-10 and possibly older and I suspect given her arthritis that she is closer to 12-13 but in good health, otherwise. I just can't take in cats anymore. I can't part with them. :-(

And it wouldn't be long before I was truly one of those "Crazy" cat ladies.

But I am glad there are people like you with strong character who CAN foster and then relinquish.

Someone asked if she is "vocal."  She is...but you can't hear her!  She is of the "silent meow" variety.  She has a big, rumbly Harley Davidson purr, but no meow to speak of.

She also hates to be picked up.

She has the heavy whisker pads and the funny bend to the wrist that says "age" to me.

If she isn't spayed, we'll have to get it done.

The vet can also tell by looking for tell-tale changes in the eyes. I believe the nature of the irises change; that's what the rescue vet told me when she said Mari was 8-10 and possibly older than that. Does she bunny hop the stairs? Or show other signs of arthritis?
