I had to put my cat Midnight to sleep less than two weeks ago and now my cat Jinx is dying.  Last Friday she was sitting on the back porch and some fluid was coming out of her nose.  I made a vet appointment for Monday.  On Sunday she was on the porch and stumbled which was odd.  By Sunday night my husband noticed her front paw was curled up and she could barely walk.  We thought she had hurt her paw and we brought her into the vet immediately Monday morning.  The vet could locate no pulse in her front leg and did some tests.  Her liver enzymes were bad and she said she needed to go to a teaching hospital for further heart tests.  Purdue kept her all day and did an ultrasound, echo, etc.  They found her kidney levels off.  They sent her home with instructions for drugs and to go back to our vet today for IV fluids.  She is just fading, not peeing, the vet at Purdue can't figure it out, I am out of town and my poor husband is spending all day with our baby at vet offices.  I take such good care of my cats and it is just not fair.  When Jinx was at the vet in April she had a "senior workup" (she's 13) and everything was perfect.  Most of my cats were walk-ons or dumped by others but I found Jinx on Petfinder and I picked her.  I love all my cats but I felt like she was so special.  My husband has her safely tucked away in a room with multiple beds and towels for her to pee on (and a cookie sheet with litter) and he said she has moved from bed to bed.  Please pray that she pees, she can pee all over I don't care, I just want her to get better but I don't think she will.  She is a beautiful little buff colored cat.

I am so sorry to hear such sad news.  RIP sweet Midnight.

I hope your vet can figure out what is wrong with Jinx and help her.  Sending lots of good vibes your way.

You might want to post is the SOS forum for quicker responses.

I posted at the same time as you, so I apologize about post just above.

So sorry to hear about Jinx.  What was wrong with the poor girl?  Blood clot, perhaps, since no pulse?

Purdue wanted to do an autopsy and we finally agreed since it might help someone else's cat.  I said I wanted her back so we could bury her.

They don't know except her lungs began filling with fluid as they gave her IVs even though she was on oxygen and lasix.  It is though everything crashed.  If the heart isn't pumping blood properly it can affect the kidneys and she wasn't peeing.  How can this be when she was fine a week ago???  On Saturday night we heard some cat screaming but we thought it was a tussle and now we wonder if it  was Jinx having a stroke in her leg.  We have 6 cats (I can't believe it--two weeks ago we had 8 cats) and sometimes the calico gets into it with one of the boys.  I've been looking at pictures of her with her green eyes and pretty face.  She was such a good cat too, always welcomed the new pets, always stood up to the dogs and always used the box.  She would sleep with us and she had the funniest habit--if you scratched her her back leg would thump.  I won't forget you and I will always love you Jinx!

My cat died from too much fluid after IV infusion as well.  I noticed after losing her that she had a heart murmur, so maybe that was the biggest problem.  We also had her on Lasix.

I've read of another forum members cat on here also dying after an in hospital infusion.  I really need to do some more research on IV infusions so I am better prepared if it is recommended for one of my other cats.

Please know  you and your husband did everything you could to save her with the information you were given by your vet.  I beat myself up over losing my cat, but really, we put our trust in our vets, and we have to rely on their knowledge in a time of crisis.  They want what is best for our pets health, too.

Jinx had a loving home and was blessed to be with you so long.  She knows she was loved.  So many pets never know this love.

Rest in peace, sweet Jinx.  {{{HUGS}}}

My condolences. It's incredibly difficult to lose just one fur baby, let alone two in such a short space of time. RIP, Midnight and Jinx.
