lf you think that your reflexes are faster, or even as quick as those of a cat  -  think again!

My cat Bretten and l have this fun routine when l go to the washroom. When l'm "doing my thing"

(l know, sorry for the visual) he pokes his paw under the door and waits for me to touch it with something

and he grabs at it furiously.

Well, just now, we did the routine, except the waste can was empty. So rather than do the sensible thing

and grab a square of toilet paper that he could swish at, l decided l could use my finger lightly on the back

of his waiting paw, and l'd be quick enough to get it out of his way.

OMG! He's fast!!

My poor right-hand index finger has been ripped open in the time it took for me to say, "OUCH!"

I'll have to go for a tetanus booster tomorrow.

l was going to post pix of my mangled finger, with the offending cat in view. l thought it was cute

but on second thought, it may not go over well, so l'll use this post as a public service message :)

Yeah, these little suckers are quick! Hence why they are hunters! I still have the scars from years ago! Just make sure you wash it out well and use antibiotic ointment on it. Remember, that claw that ripped open your skin also covered up his poop.

I used to play with my kitties paws from under the door (why do they think they need to supervise?? lol) But, our house now there is room in the bathroom between the "throne" and the door so I can kind of ignore them until I open the door.

Our other house, any barn kittens we brought in to socialize in our bedroom could squeeze UNDER the doors (2" clearance) so you're sitting there, doing you business, and suddenly you have a kitten with very sharp claws in your lap. NOT fun!

I play with my cats using strings and sometimes my bare hands and usually get scratched.

Like you, I play with Mitty under the bathroom door. I usually wiggle a comb handle or flyswatter under the door and she goes bonkers after it. LOL

They are very quick! Mollipop's favorite game is Bed Mice. When we're in bed, I'll move my hands or fingers under the sheet and she'll attack them. I'll tempt her by letting her get a glimpse of my fingers sticking out from the sheets and then quickly (but never quickly enough) pull my fingers back under the sheets. She really loves to attack my hands, flop on top of them and then bunny-kick. We play for awhile until either she gets tired of the game or my hands get clawed too badly. I try to play Bed Mice after we've just trimmed her claws to make it easier on me. That doesn't always work. We've always used our hands to play with our cats. They have toys as well, but they like our hands too. But I know you're not really supposed to use your hands as toys.

I do that too! I run my hands under sheets and blankets and they go crazy after my hands, especially my Tiger.

:clap: Kitties are just so much fun!!! and fast too!!! What gets me is when I am playing games like you describe and they predict where and when my finger or use of a toy will appear under the door. They DO have ESP too. Wendall loves to chase my feet under the sheets every night. Makes going to bed tons of fun :lol3:

My hand is shredded from playing with Nicolai; he must have been a great hunter when he was a stray 'cause he has claws like fish hooks. When he gets them into you it can be difficult to extract your hand from his paws. He will let go if I say "Ouch". He's a sweet boy and it's all just play.

lt's nice to read everyone else gets ripped to shreds once in awhile too. ;P

LOL @ Bed Mice! We play that too, but never called it Bed Mice. lt's been hotter than hell here for the last month or so, but my feet are triple-layered under comforters so they don't get bitten or scratched overnight.
