I have a 2001 PT Cruiser (Clarence) and well, he's starting to get that old-car smell. I've washed him, both inside and out, regularly over the last almost 13 years and I clean the interior with Armour All Protectant. I vacuum the interior every other week. He usually gets a detail in the fall where they meticulously clean him inside and out. Good wax job. When they bring him back, he always looks gorgeous. Last year I didn't get it done; I probably should have. But the smell is definitely there and I've really noticed it this summer.

How do I get rid of old car smell? Obviously I can't make the car smell new again and I wouldn't want to. But he has to smell better than this! Poor guy.

Room freshener? Do they really work or will the freshener smell just make me gag? Ideas? Get him detailed now?

Thanks!

I use a great freshener by Driven called Titanium Rain. Found easily at Auto Zone or even Wal-Mart.

I haven't had great success with air fresheners.

This may be a bit random, but have you tried Poo-Pourri followed by a car freshener?

The room freshener could be a bit overwhelming. I think you should try getting it detailed.

Thanks, guys! I'll try Titanium Rain and see how that works out (I worry about that in such a small space). If that doesn't work, he'll go in for his detail.

Not sure if you'll like the scent though--I'm the furthest from a "girly girl" you could come across. We get the one that fits in a cup holder (we put it in our cupholder in our backseat) and adjust how open the lid is.

Also, while the poo-pourri sounds strange, it's a great neutralizer to use a little before a fragrance. We used it like a charm after our windows were tinted -- tinting the windows leave a dead fish smell for some reason.

Good luck!
