Has anyone ever tried using Valerian as an apetite stimulant for their cat? Does it work?

No, I have only used it in some of my toy designs, because some non-catnip responders do respond to valerian.

Both my cats aren't eating because of illness so I'm desperate to try anything. I heard that catnip and valerian can sometimes work so I was just curious to hear peoples' experiences with it if anyone had tried it for that purpose. I appreciate any input.

Did you talk to your vet about this?

Not yet but I plan on it today when I pick Titan up. Yesterday she mentioned giving him Mirtazapine but I'm a little worried since he had a bad reaction to the cyproheptadine. This vet is the 3rd one I've dealt with in the past week since he's been sick. So far I like her the best because I feel that she listens to me more than the others but she already told me that she's not very familiar with natural remedies or diets. I'm not against medications or anything but if there's a simpler solution I'd like to try it first ya know.

I am sorry - you may or may not have seen my thread on my cat Denebola (aka Dee) who has been so ill since late March.  Part of what we've had to deal with is total lack of appetite (now much improved thankfully).   For a time, I had to assist feed him to get something in, when he was most ill.
Fwiw, re meds, I am using both mirtazapine (every 72 hours - IF needed) and metoclopramide (aka reglan)..and non-med things I've used are his favorite stinky fish treats as i call them - he loves wildside salmon - I crumble cubes of that atop his food, kitty kaviar (flaked bonito) and dr. becker's appetite flakes (dried flakes of beef and bison liver).  We also dealt with a pneumonia he develped at one point - as he felt better, had better/easier breathing, his appetite improved.
I wish you all the best with your kitty.
