I took Titan back to the vet yesterday because he wasn't eating again and friday night he had a bad reaction to the cyproheptadine. He was falling down when he'd try to jump on the couch or his bed and he was walking like he was dizzy. Yesterday he was completely lethargic and he urinated all over his cat bed and then just laid on top of it. His eye was running and he was making a wheezing sound when he breathes. The vet did more blood work to see if things had gotten worse since his blood work on Monday and she said his BUN had increased and his Potassium had dropped even lower(which could be causing him to be lethargic and disoriented). Also there was a slight increase in the #s concerning his liver function. The vet tech gave him sub-q fluids w potassium in it, a B12 shot and an antiemetic. She also showed me how to do the fluids so that I could do it at home if it made him feel better

. The hope was that after he was more hydrated and his potassium was up he'd be more willing to eat but it didn't work. I even tried syringe feeding him. At the follow up appt today the vet suggested we have him stay overnight at the hospital for observation because she's concerned about him getting fatty liver disease. I'm so worried about him and I don't know what else to do. I hope he's not in pain.
While all of this is going on poor Sangha is also barely eating or drinking. His eyes look awful and he hates his Clavomox. Everytime I give it to him his mouth foams up and he drools for about 5-10mins after. The vet says this is a normal side effect that lots of cats have because it tastes bad. I've given up on trying to give him the cypro pill and I'm going to call the compounding pharmacy tomorrow and find out about getting the transdermal gel instead. Luckily I was able to get him to eat a small amount of dry food this afternoon but he's not drinking enough.

Does anybody know how long before the antibiotics will start to make him feel better?

That's Sangha above. I've never seen his eyes look like that.

Here's a pic of Titan. His eyes have been running for days. He's been on his amoxocillin for almost a week but I'm not sure it's helping. It's hard to tell with him because of all his other issues going on as well.

I don't have any advice.  Just sending some cyber {{{HGUS}}} to you.  Sorry you are all going through this.

Oh hun... :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: for you, and :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: for the kitties!

There is an alternative appetite stimulant to the cypro, it's mirtazipine. I don't remember the mirtazipine dose, but it's only given every three days. You may want to ask the vet about this.

As to the Clavamox, there are many other antibiotic choices, and if you can pill easier than give liquids, you might want to ask about using a different antibiotic too. :rub:

Dee is on this - a 1/4 tab q 72 hours as needed.  I'd ask about giving Sangha some sub-q fluids at home...rehydrating will help him feel better and lessen your concern over how much he's drinking.

I missed your original post, but what exactly is wrong?  Do they have an upper respiratory infection?

Okay, went back and looked at the pics.  Has the vet done a culture and sensitivity test on the eye drainage?  Ask for a different antibiotic.  Clavamox creates a negative reaction (like foaming of the mouth) in many kitties.  If the pharmacy can compound it into a treat, that would be better, but there are other antibiotics that are just as good.

Have you considered a 2nd opinion?
